Versa Lee Sims, 84, the spouse of a retired clergy member of the Great Plains United Methodist Conference passed away Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 at Independence Manor Care, in Independence, Mo. Versa was born May 23, 1932 in Holmes County, MS to Earl and Peoria Gertrude (Donalson) Travis. Rev. Cato and Versa Sims served South Omaha Parish, Omaha Pearl Memorial-Asbury-Wesley, Walthill-Rosalie, Dawson-Howe, Polk-Bradshaw, Kenesaw-Holstein, Falls City Parish, Chester-Hubbell, and Ceresco-Valparaiso in Nebraska.Survivors include: her husband, the Rev. Cato Sims, Sr. of the home; children; Denise Walker, Bob Sims (Charlene), Cato Sims, Jr. (Patti), Naomi Cole, JoAnn Sims and Rosie Sims. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn Sims.
Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.The family will greet friends from 10 a.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel.
