Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your attention the names of two or three spiritual leaders who embody for you, the person described by Dr. Heath in her book, God Unbound: “Only a few rare leaders can remain centered and integrated enough to withstand systems change anxiety, refuse to participate in scapegoating, tend to people within the system who will not change, protect necessary space for change to happen, nurture the pioneers who are leading the way forward, and attend to all these duties in loving and wise ways.”
Write their names in your prayer journal. Offer a prayer of thanksgiving for their lives and witness. Perhaps, if they are living today, you may want to send them a word of gratitude and affirmation.
You also may want to make notes about the attitudes, actions, and spiritual practices you observe in these leaders.
