This Week in Caregiving from the National Alliance for Caregiving
Here are the highlights from this week's news in family caregiving:
Huffington Post | October 20, 2016
"I am one of the nation's 34 million family caregivers. The services we provide for free are valued at more than $520 billion, according to the Rand Corp - a staggering amount that's almost as much as the United States had budgeted for the nation's defense in 2016. Which is why I believe that family caregivers need a union."
McKnight's Senior Living | October 19, 2016
"Georgia State University Gerontology Institute researchers are in the middle of a five-year, $1.9 million study ultimately aiming to improve the quality of life for assisted living residents and their formal and informal caregiver. All told, over the course of the the research, Kemp and colleagues plan to study 50 residents who are diverse in age, marital and parental statues - as well as 250 informal caregivers and 40 administrators and care staff members."
MedCity News | October 20, 2016
"According to AARP, there are at least 40 million unpaid caregivers taking care of an older, sicker person in the U.S. In a survey the organization conducted, 71 percent of these caregivers - typically family members of the patients - said they would be interested in technology to help provide care, but only 7 percent actually are using such tools. Why such a disconnect?"
