Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 21 October 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West of Olathe, Kansas, United States

Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 21 October 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West of Olathe, Kansas, United States
Resurrection West,
I’m beginning this day giving thanks for the beautiful weather and a reading of the Gospel of Mark. We’ve been reading along with our 3rd graders through the Gospel of Mark and posting each day’s reading on instagram, twitter, and Facebook. Today’s reading is Mark 8:1-21 where Jesus feeds thousands, reminding us of his provision for us. May we be found grateful this day!
Last Sunday was such an inspirational day in worship with 196 households bringing forth your financial pledge for 2017. Our prayer is that you will continue to experience the blessing, the peace and the joy that comes from knowing, loving and serving God through generosity. Giving faithfully means we will change more lives for Christ, transform communities in new ways and provide greater leadership to renew the church! I am so grateful for your commitments to God’s mission and vision here at RezWest. This is lower than the first commitment weekend last year which was 224, but way up in our average giving per household from $3,537 per pledge to $4,408 per pledge. Thank you for “stepping up” this year! When we finished last year’s campaign we had a total of 465 pledging households, so we still have a long way to go. We are hopping to receive over 500 pledging households this year. Please take a moment now and complete your pledge card and offer it to God in worship this Sunday, or go now and complete your card online at cor.org/stewardship. Please be sure to choose the West Campus when you complete your card and don't forget to pick up your 2017 mug in the back of the Sanctuary once your commitment card has been completed.
This Sunday, October 23, 2016, I will be sharing a sermon entitled “[Re]formed for the Good Life." On Facebook this past week I asked a question; What it is that’s stopping you from realizing your full potential as a disciple of Christ? Many of you gave some great answers and insight. If you’d like to add some insight please do so on the RezWest Facebook page by clicking here. In chapter 18 of Jeremiah, we read of God instructing him to go down to the Potter’s house because God has a message for him there. We will look closely at that message to Jeremiah, which helps us all understand God’s invitation to be His disciple and get to the good work He calls us into. We see this metaphor return again in the New Testament. Reach out and invite a friend to worship, maybe even someone you haven’t seen in worship for a while.
Check out the opportunities below and get connected in knowing, loving, and serving God here at RezWest.

Places to serve at Resurrection West
  • Hospitality Teams – Bring your amazing enthusiasm and bright smile and help us create a welcoming environment at Resurrection West. Coming up at the end of November, we will offer four worship services each Sunday. This opens up many new places to serve. The beauty of these volunteer opportunities is that you can serve 30 minutes before/after the worship service you normally attend. To sign up to serve as bulletin stuffer, communion volunteer, connection point greeter, coffee and refreshment volunteer, greeter, parking lot attendant, technical crew, usher or weekday data entry helper, contact Yolanda.Byers@cor.org.
  • Muggers Needed – Taking a coffee mug to a first-time visitor is a Resurrection tradition. First-time visitor households are identified via the attendance notebooks at each worship service; then by the end of the service, mugs are prepared for delivery by including the family name and a map to the house. We need muggers for Olathe, Shawnee, Lenexa, Desoto, Overland Park and the Lawrence area. Contact David.Robertson@cor.org for more information or to volunteer.
  • Volunteer for Upward Basketball – Serve as a coach, assistant coach or referee or work behind the scenes. Volunteering with Upward is a great way to help kids develop mentally, spiritually and socially. Sign up to be a part of this exciting ministry at cor.org/west/upward.
  • 3-week small group leader experience (21 series Nov 6-Nov 20) - Coming up in November Pastor Adam will be preaching a 3-week series exploring the 21 questions John Wesley invited his ministry leaders to reflect on. As a part of this series, our more than 30 small groups will be participating in a small-group curriculum prepared just for this series. We’d also like to have three or four experienced small groups leaders to offer three to four groups for people who have never tried a small group. If you are interested in leading one of these three-week groups contact david.robertson@cor.org
