UPDATE: The latest from Haiti's south from Dr. Joia Mukherjee, Partners In Health of Boston, Massachusetts, United States for Monday, 17 October 2017
I am writing to you from Haiti's decimated south, where more than 1 million people have lost their homes, crops, livestock, and even family members. Please, send urgent help today.
People here are in desperate need of food, shelter, clean water, and health care after the chaos of Hurricane Matthew. Not since the 2010 earthquake have I seen such devastation anywhere.
Here in the town of Les Cayes, the region's only functional public hospital is badly damaged and ill-prepared for the overwhelming need that will only grow in the weeks and months to come.
Families from Les Cayes and surrounding communities need a functional hospital—urgently.
These are some of the nation's most vulnerable people, and they're fighting a sudden uptick in starvation, tetanus, cholera, and other diarrheal diseases—all ailments PIH can help to treat.
Your gift supports Les Cayes hospital. It sends PIH teams to Haiti's worst-hit regions. And it provides basic health care for the nation's poorest, most vulnerable families.
With gratitude,
Joia
