I have this goofy trait where I get stuck in a song rut and listen to the same song over and over again. Thankful my song right now is not one of my girls’ favorites from the YouTube channel “Super Simple Songs.” Their current favorite is “Alice the Camel” because, well, it has Alice’s name in it.
No, “Alice the Camel” is not my song on repeat right now. My song on repeat is “My Father’s World” by the artist, Gungor. This is the hymn, “This is My Father’s World” sung to the familiar tune in a new way and it is beautiful. Click HERE to listen to the song.
The lyrics are as follows:
This is my Father’s world,
And to my list’ning ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas—
His hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world:
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world:
He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.
This is my Father’s world:
Oh, let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world,
The battle is not done:
Jesus who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.
The line that stands out in these dark times is, “Oh, let me ne’er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.” We wholeheartedly believe that Christ has conquered death and the grave. We have HOPE in Christ. We also believe that the world is not yet fully reconciled to God. So, yes, we have hope, but it is also not fully realized yet. Some call this the, "already and the not yet." Christ has already come, but he has not returned and restored the whole world yet. We live into and reflect our Risen Savior, but the earth still groans under the destruction of death and sin in the world. We know that one day “earth and Heave’n [will] be one” and that fact gives us hope and should serve to motivate us to be agents of love and reconciliation in this world.
May we be people that remember that this is our "Father's World" and that "God is the ruler yet." Thanks be to God!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Cara
