Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, May 18, 2018 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Greetings Resurrection Downtowners,

Good morning and happy Friday! It's hard to believe but the countdown to our Grand Opening is on. We are now just 15 days away from our launch! One of the highlights from this past week was putting together a brief video describing our community and upcoming move. We shared it on social media, but if you haven't seen it yet, I'd love for you to check it out by visiting our website here. We want to share our story as broadly as possible and invite as many people as we can to our Grand Opening, so please consider posting it or sharing it with your friends, neighbors and colleagues. This is just so exciting.
This weekend, as a part of our building project, we are planning to seal and re-stripe the parking lot surrounding our new location (weather permitting), so weekend parking will be limited to our two lots located immediately south of 1522 McGee. As always you will be able to park all along the streets nearby. Either way, please be sure to leave extra early if you're planning on joining us for Serve Saturday or for our worship services as it might take a little longer to get parked.
In worship this weekend we'll be Celebrating our Graduates! But before I get into that, it's important to share that there was a shooting in the parking lot at our Leawood Campus last night. One person (a recent graduate) was injured, and as far as we know the injuries did not appear to be life threatening. The shooting appeared to be related to the Center High School Graduation Ceremony, which was being hosted in the Leawood Sanctuary. Please pray for the student who was shot, for his classmates, their families, the administrators and the Center High School Staff who were all shaken up by this unfortunate incident. Pastor Adam will be sure to share more information later today in his communication or on Facebook. To that end, one of the things we'll be focusing on this weekend is What Jesus Would Say to our future generations, specifically our graduates. I hope you'll join us for what will be an inspiring and relevant weekend in worship. Our last of this series and our second to last service in McGee. During this exciting time of year, we want to acknowledge and appreciate our graduates who attend Resurrection Downtown. A gift will be available at the Connection Point for those graduating from High School or College, after each one of our services.
Also, this Saturday is a Serve Saturday. Invite family and friends of all ages to join you tomorrow for community service #withKC! Plan to show up at 1522 McGee by 9 am to be introduced to our construction team, refugee children’s reading program, and many other Serve partners around KC. Each month, we help with a variety of meaningful projects like painting, cleaning, and landscaping. Email Pastor Patrick.McLaughlin@cor.org with questions, or if you plan to bring a group! Also, remember to leave a bit early due to our parking limitations!
Individuals of all ages with special needs and their siblings are invited to Matthew's Ministry Family Day Out, a fun-filled day of crafts, activities and fellowship while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves, this Sunday, May 20, from 1- 4 pm at 1522 McGee. Please register so that we may plan accordingly for snacks and volunteers. This event is open to the community; you do not need to be a member of the church to participate. For questions, registration or to volunteer, contact Hannah.Murray@cor.org.
Finally, as we're moving into our building all week long, we want to invite you on Thursday, May 24th to join us for a fun and rewarding Serve opportunity at Wendell Phillips Elementary's Year End Fun Day. Help the students celebrate the last day of school! Assist with activities throughout the morning and/or afternoon. Consider setting a day aside to join us in this wonderful partnership #withWP. Register online here, or email PastorPatrick@cor.org with questions!
I am so humbled by the fact that I get to serve Christ with you and I'm grateful to see where God leads us into the future. I'll see you this weekend in worship!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
