Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Yesterday I walked through a beautiful little garden setting as I entered an area hospital to make a visit and the Bradford pears blossums were falling like rain all around me. It was so beautiful. There aren't many other places I'd rather be when it comes to springtime in KC. It seems like our spring has been especially beautiful this year. I hope you've taken some time to appreciate it and give a little thanks to our creator for it. If you haven't, today is the perfect day for it.
I think our God loves to hear from us anytime but we probably don't do as well offering our gratitude as we do lifting up our petitions and concerns. If our own joy in hearing words of appreciation from others is any clue, our heavenly Father probably appreciates them too. We're created in God's image after all!
If you'd like to know more about how to pray, I want to encourage you to consider joining our new Prayer class starting next Wednesday evening, April 22nd at 6:30 pm. It's a great time for fellowship over dinner and then instruction and discussion about what Jesus was trying to teach us about prayer when he gave the disciples the Lord's prayer.
This class will be a natural extension of the conversation we're engaging in this Sunday too as we continue our "Why?" sermon series. We’ll be focusing our attention on the question of ‘Why?’ as it pertains to suffering through illness, God, and Unanswered Prayer. If you know of someone trying to make sense of God in the midst of suffering, this would be a great Sunday to invite them to join us.
In the meantime, here's a look at what's coming up:
Wendell Phillips School Supply Drive
We are collecting items for students and teachers at Wendell Phillips, one of our partner school in the inner city. These items will be used for one of our Mega Faithwork projects for children on April 25th. Please bring these items before April 25 and drop them off at Guest Services at either entrance. Thanks so much!
• Box of tissues
• Clorox wipes
• Dry erase markers
• New or gently-used children’s books (up through 6th grade)
Prayer Course – Do we really know what it means to pray the Lord's Prayer? How can the prayer that Jesus taught enable us to have a richer prayer life? This six-week journey through the Lord's Prayer covers topics such as intercession, dealing with disappointment, learning to listen and spiritual warfare. Sessions include a meal, a short talk and discussion. Join us for this 6-week course meeting Wednesdays at 6:30 pm starting April 22. For more information and to register, visitrezbluesprings.org/events or contact Mike.Ash@cor.org.
Our First "Mega" FaithWork – Meet at Resurrection Blue Springs for a morning of service and community building on Saturday, April 25. We’ll start off at 8 am with a pancake breakfast. Then at 9 am, we’ll send out teams to serve at various locations in the near area. More information will be coming about the service opportunities. We will have several on-site opportunities for kids to serve as well. All participants will receive a brand new, extra awesome #serve water bottle and a morning filled with fun and meaning. Children, students and adults of all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. Sign up at Guest Services or rezbluesprings.org/faithwork.
The Internet and Sexuality: Why It's a Problem and How to be Part of the Solution - Saturday, April 25, 9-11 am at our Downtown campus at 1522 McGee. Join other concerned community members in a conversation about how easy access to the Internet has created a pornography addiction epidemic. Our church wants to be the kind of church that is brave enough to talk about it. Resurrection’s Sherry Danner, Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist, will help us learn more. We invite all concerned community members to join this conversation and be a part of the solution God wants for Kansas City. Appropriate for those 18 and over only. For more information or to register for childcare, visit rezdowntown.org/solution.
