NMI Highlight for December
Nazarene Compassionate Ministries
Following the example of Jesus, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) partners with local Nazarene congregations around the world to clothe, shelter, feed, heal, educate, and live in solidarity with those who suffer under oppression, injustice, violence, poverty, hunger, and disease. NCM exists in and through the Church to proclaim the Gospel to all people.
Child Sponsorship is one of the ways NCM partners with local Nazarene Individuals and Congregations to help change the life of a child.

Child Sponsorship - Ernalyns Story
The video above is the story of Ernalyn, who went on to fulfill her dreams because of the impact that this much needed program, and her sponsor, had on her life.
Ernalyn is now a vital part of the World Mission Communication team here on the Asia-Pacific Region as the Director of the New Media Department and designer of the new updated Nazarene.orgwebsite.
Please pray about what God may be asking you as an individual, or as a church, to do in the life of a child, or through one of the various ministries of NCM.
As an NMI leader in your church, please share the ministries of NCM and the impact Child Sponsorship can have on a child and the benefits that will be reaped in the future because of your participation.

"5 Steps to Terrific Customer Service"
"Simple Things Your Team Can Implement Today"
I travel a great deal and have done so for the last 30 years. In fact, I've accumulated more than nine million miles on airplanes and have earned elite status on several major airlines.
On a recent flight I happened to be seated in coach because no upgrade to business class was available, even though I qualified under the airlines' executive platinum program. However, the flight attendant surprised me by offering dinner.
"Well that's great!" I said to the flight attendant. "What are my choices?"
"Yes or No," she quickly replied.
Sad to say, her less-than-enthusiastic response is emblematic of customer service today.
As we have moved from a local to a global economy, we've gone from dealing with friends and neighbors to dealing with faceless corporations with operations scattered around the world.
But customer service still matters! Don't allow your team to win the race to the bottom by viewing customer service merely as a cost center. Make it the hallmark of your great organization's culture.
Here are five characteristics of terrific customer service.1. Finding Out What the Customer Really Wants.
Don't assume that you know what the customer is thinking. Find out. Ask questions like "What would you like to see happen here?" or "What outcomes are you looking for?" Then do your best to make it a reality.
2. Honor the Customer.
Everyone wants to be treated as if what they do matters. If customers have a choice between a business that respects their needs with quality, respectful service and one that treats them carelessly, they'll go with the first option every time. In fact, Jesus once said, "Treat others the way you'd like to be treated."
3. Confirm the Customer.
Customers are samplers. They will often come into your business or organization and try it on for size. Don't assume that a first-time guest, customer, or client is hooked for life. Go over the top to ensure that they have a "Wow!" experience, and confirm them as a customer.
4. Set the Pace.
There are two types of people in every workplace: those who wait for a green light and those who wait for a red light. The first group won't do anything until they are told what to do. Those in the second group will take initiative; they'll move in a positive direction until someone tells them to stop. Put yourself in the second group. Take the lead and set an example in serving the customer.
5. Do It Right Or Not At All.
Terrific customer service doesn't just happen-it's anticipated. Written into the business plan of successful ventures are achievable goals that become stepping stones to success. Further, one of the most important goals is to serve the customer right, the first time.
Remember, if your only concern is quantity, you will end up with neither quality nor quantity-and the customer will be the victim of your drive-by idea.
These are some of my best ideas for delivering top-notch customer service. I'd love to hear yours. Share your best story of terrific customer service on Facebook or Twitter![Stan Toler]

Supply Shortage at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital.
Papua New Guinea (PNG), Melanesia South Pacific Field.

While one of the most equipped and staffed hospitals in the country, Kudjip Nazarene Hospital is facing a crisis of supply.
Critical supplies such as morphine, gloves, gauze, and antibiotics have dwindled to nothing. With new stocks of supplies stuck in port with customs, the Central Supply staff have taken to strips of sterilized sheets for bandages!

SUPPLY SHORTAGE AT KUDJIP NAZARENE HOSPITAL – PLEASE PRAY!
Kudjip, Papua New Guinea:
One of the realities of serving in a remote, resource-challenged setting, is getting necessary supplies when and where they are needed.
Dr. Scott Dooley, Administrator for the Kudjip Nazarene Hospital just recently reported:
We are out of exam gloves, gauze, morphine, and several antibiotics. While this is definitely challenging, we are still doing surgery and incredibly, we are still one of the best equipped/staffed medical facilities in the country!
How would you like to have a surgery with no post-op morphine for pain control? How does a doctor do a repair of a stab wound gushing blood in the Emergency Room with no gauze, just wiping with cotton balls?
Central Supply staff are cutting roller bandages into strips to be sterilized and used as gauze.
Recently the Central Supply staff were cutting up “roller bandages,” old-fashioned torn sheet bandage rolls previously donated by churches. These bandage rolls are being cut into strips to be sterilized and used instead of gauze until we get resupplied. Thanks for all of the churches and individuals who helped send these along!
There are currently two 20 foot ocean freight containers destined for Kudjip Nazarene Hospital, that have been stuck in port with customs for 3 months. In addition to other supplies, they have gauze and gloves. Of further concern is the fact that recently, the government announced a 40% cut in their normally budgeted funding to the hospital for this upcoming year. This will have a significant impact if no solutions are found. Read: Nazarene Health Ministries requesting prayer for possible looming financial situation with government funding.
Your prayers are so greatly appreciated! We have seen over and over, the incredible provisionment of our Lord in response to the prayers of His people. Thank you so much for being part of this powerful team of prayer partners and supporters!
Prayer is one of the greatest medicines provided at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital.

UPDATE ON DAVID PHILLIPS AND HIS CANCER JOURNEY
Ohio:
Thank you for your continued prayers on behalf of David and Naomi Phillips, as David continues his cancer treatment in the state of Ohio. David just recently sent in the following report:
God is at work in our hearts! Naomi and I continue to deepen our relationships with our children and the local church during this time of treatment. There have been more and more side effects from the chemo treatment such as numbness in the fingers and toes. While it is a bit concerning, the doctor assures us that these effects are temporary. My strength is ok, but I am still tired from time to time.
Please continue to lift David and Naomi in prayer as they walk this journey. We are praying for a complete recovery and a return to the field in the not-so-distant future! Most of all, we are praying for God’s perfect will to be accomplished in and through them as they embrace those who are daily part of their journey.[For more information – you can visit David’s Facebook page at this link.]

SEANBC EXTENSION PROGRAM – DISCIPLESHIP THROUGH EDUCATION
Karen State, Myanmar:
South East Asia Nazarene Bible College (SEANBC) is truly embracing their mission of extending theological education across the nations! The college just announced the commencement of its first Extension Program in Karen State, Myanmar.
The program is headed by SEANBC overall academic dean Ptr. Dinga and Yangon campus dean of students Ptr. Enkawla, who are together teaching two courses.
Students in the Course of Study come from 8am to 4pm.There is tremendous energy as students from four local villages are taking advantage of this further theological training and have committed to the pastoral Course of Study (COS) leading to ordination. Theological education is just part of what is happening, as after the classes, which are held from 8am to 4pm, Pastors Dinga and Enkwala visit neighbors and hold prayer in their homes.
SEANBC is anticipating more classes and attendees as the program continues. Aside from the COS, the principals also had the opportunity to preach in local churches and lead Sunday worship service. Group songs and children’s bible recitation were among the activities during this fellowship. They also had the opportunity to go to the site of a house that recently burned in order to bless the family and cast out the evil atmosphere surrounding them, signifying God’s almighty power. Ptr. Dinga and Ptr. Enkwala prayed for the families and proclaimed God’s victory in the area.Read: Fatal fire strikes Nazarene family in Myanmar.
Indeed, the Extension program has provided more chances to serve Him, reach out and disciple communities. All of this is falling into place because of your prayers. Please continue to pray for the success of the program, and for the Holy Spirit to guide our team members as they carry on with what God has been calling them to do.[Submitted by: Ptr. Dinga]

GUAM FIRST CHURCH INTRODUCES NEW INTERIM PASTOR
Guam:
The Guam First Church of the Nazarene just recently announced the appointment of Rev. Dale and Marlene Hansen as their interim pastoral family.
Rev. Dale and Marlene both grew up in Northern Idaho. They have two sons and four grandchildren. They both attended Northwest Nazarene University (NNU). The Hansens have been in pastoral ministry for 39 years, spending 32 of those years in Canada.
Aside from NNU, Rev. Dale also graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS) and served as a pastor after he finished studying. Marlene, on the other hand, was a very efficient secretary for Alberta Health Services, Department of Health. Rev. Dale and Marlene both retired just a few months ago before coming to Guam.
As the Hansens assume this important role in the church, let us pray for them, that they may be guided by the Holy Spirit as they in turn guide the Guam First Church of the Nazarene with Christlike compassion and leadership.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Dr. Grant Zweigle

"I never thought I would have a pastor at my dinner table!"
These were the words of my neighbor as my wife and I joined his family for dinner. We were pastoring in a city where only 3% of residents attended church. My neighbor probably thought he wouldn't have much in common with a Christian pastor.
We were happy to break down his stereotype. He was our friend and neighbor! We enjoyed being with his family. Accepting an invitation to dinner was a simple way for us to begin to change his social perception about Christians and the church...

“I never thought I would have a pastor at my dinner table!” These were the words of my neighbor as my wife and I joined his family for dinner. We were pastoring in a city where only 3% of residents attended church. My neighbor probably thought he wouldn’t have much in common with a Christian pastor.
We were happy to break down his stereotype. He was our friend and neighbor! We enjoyed being with his family. Accepting an invitation to dinner was a simple way for us to begin to change his social perception about Christians and the church.
In Acts chapter 10, we read the story of the time Peter, a Jewish follower of Jesus, was invited to dinner at Cornelius’s house. Cornelius was a Roman soldier, a Gentile. The Romans thought people like Peter were narrow-minded and judgmental. After all, they didn’t join Romans at their parties and insisted on taking a day off every week. I’ll bet Cornelius never thought he would have someone like Peter at his dinner table!
Peter never would have accepted Cornelius’ invitation if the Lord hadn’t intervened. Peter was afraid of what his religious friends would have thought of him if he was seen entering the home of a Roman soldier. The Lord had to speak three times, challenging the religious rules and regulations that Peter held dear, rules and regulations that kept him at arms lengths from the world God loves.
Acts 10 tells the story of the conversion of Peter as he realized that God does not show favoritism. Peter’s conversion opened the way for the conversion of Cornelius and his whole household. Perhaps we need a similar conversion today.
When was the last time you accepted an invitation to eat dinner at the home of a person who does not share your Christian faith and values? Do you avoid social activities with people who do not believe or behave as you do? Do your atheist, immigrant, Muslim and/or Buddhist neighbors know that you would accept their invitation to dinner? If not, why?
“Time has gone by, and thanks to God and to that experience that Peter had, we and others who otherwise would be far have been made near. But now we are the ones who have laws, rules, and principles that, no matter how good, sometimes run the risk of being obstacles to our mission.” Justo Gonzalez
The Holy Spirit is active in the world today, reconciling people to God and breaking down barriers that divide the church from the world. Let’s join the Spirit and go winsomely into our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools and community centers as agents of God’s reconciling love. We can begin by becoming the kind of neighbor who gets invited to dinner.#reimagevangel

ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES TO REACH THE LOST – AN NMI CELEBRATION!
Manila, Philippines:
On Saturday, November 28th, the Metro-Manila district gathered for their Thanksgiving festivities together with the 100th Anniversary Celebration of NMI. The theme for the event was “Endless Possibilities.”
The NMI Celebration started with a motorcade parade!
The day started early with a motorcade involving several vehicles filled with people, driving through the surrounding area sporting banners and balloons, representing the different churches of the district. The celebration of the 100th Anniversary was featured on bright yellow shirts printed for the occasion.
Dr. Grant Zweigle, Dean of Students at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) was the guest speaker. His message from Acts 10 was brought with a challenge to see the endless possibilities as the Spirit pushes us to overcome our prejudices and preferences, opening our hearts and tables to others.
The chapel on the campus of APNTS was overflowing with many yellow-shirted participants from across the district. With not enough room inside for all who were in attendance, the participants spilled out onto the lawns surrounding the open-air chapel, which allowed them to sit and not only listen, but participate in the celebration as well.
The lawns were full with people participating in the celebration.
After the message, all were invited to the table for lunch and fellowship, which was followed, by a talent festival and games; a tremendous celebration that lasted well into the afternoon.
Praise God for the beautiful weather, for His presence, and for the realization that there truly are endless possibilities to share the good news of a Living Savior with those around us! Will you look for opportunities where you live?[Submitted: Connie Aebischer – Regional NMI Coordinator]

Announcing the Release of Articles of Faith StudyMaps Mobile Application for Android!
Global

"just what do Nazarenes believe?" Have you ever been asked that question by one of your friends or acquaintances? Do you have an answer for them?
The core beliefs of the Church of the Nazarene are found in the Articles of Faith. These articles provide the essential "glue" that binds the church into a unified and cohesive whole. Without the unifying expression of our beliefs as articulated in these articles, we have no reason to exist as a denomination.
On November 20th, World Mission Communications announced the release of the Android version of the AOF StudyMaps.
