Greetings, Resurrection Blue Springs!
What a beautiful start to our Labor Day weekend! It's been a flurry of activity as our staff team and small group leaders gear up for the start of a new fall season of classes. Tonight is the first TGIF for children age 4 through 5th grade. Diane has a fun evening with a “School Recess” theme planned for the kids tonight. Bill and I are looking forward to facilitating a Disciple 1 class in our new home. Let’s hope we have the boxes all unpacked by the first class! You can see the other class options below.
Hurricane Harvey Aid
I’m sure that, like me, you have been watching the news unfold from Hurricane Harvey in the south. I want to remind you that you can contribute to the relief efforts in partnership with local United Methodist Churches along the Texas coast by donating online. As Pastor Adam shared in an earlier message this week, you can donate to this important work online (under the "Giving Type" options, select Disaster Response or, from your mobile phone, text COR to the number 77977 to give). 100% of what you give will go to those in need. We’ll have other opportunities to serve in the relief efforts later but for now we can keep the prayers for the people and the early responders going and help by donating.
New Members
I wanted to report on our joining service from last Sunday. We welcomed 8 new members to our Resurrection Blue Springs community: Lila Atkinson, Steve and Cindy Berryman, Mike and Helen Case, Sharon Clingman, Ken Landes and Linda Sharp. We'll make the introductions on Sunday morning so you can give them a warm welcome.
This Weekend
We’ll be continuing our sermon series on Simon Peter this Sunday by turning to Matthew 16:13-28, where Jesus asked his disciples who others said he was and Peter responded, “You are the Christ the son of the living God.” Jesus then gave Simon the name "Peter" - Simon meant "reed" (of grass), and Peter meant "rock." This was a high point for Peter, but in the very next story Jesus told Peter, “Get behind me Satan, you are a source of stumbling to me.”
We’ll look at our own journey as Christians and how we often mirror Peter, sometimes getting it right and sometimes wrong. I hope you’ll plan to be here and invite a friend to join us. This Sunday will be a family worship Sunday, so our children 5 and up will be joining us for worship. The nursery will still be available for those under 4 years.
In the meantime, be sure to check out the other upcoming opportunities to serve, grow and connect with our community below.
Upcoming Events & Activities
Socks & Underwear Drive for The Closet
From Sept. 10–24, bring in new socks and new underwear (toddler – adult sizes) for The Closet in the Blue Springs School District. The Closet provides clothing items for those families with students in the district who could use a little extra support. There are many such families in our community, and The Closet has been a very big blessing for them. Let’s see how many we can collect! Bring donations to the collection barrel in the west entry.
