The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, United States - Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, September 1, 2017

Greetings RezDowntowners,
Happy Friday and first day of September!!! I hope you are doing well at the start of this Labor Day weekend. On top of everything else this past week, we decided to reformat my weekly enote a bit just to keep things interesting. With that in mind, please be sure to take a look through to the end of this note to see a full list of everything that is coming up in the life of our church. My hope is that God might be leading you to get plugged into the life of this community. I hope you'll see something that meets you right where you are!
This weekend in worship is shaping up to be a great one as well as we continue to take a look at Simon Peter and specifically how Peter who many considered to be a foundation stone, sometimes found that he lived and acted more like a stumbling stone. My guess is that this might feel familiar to your own life. Sometimes we have things totally under control only to at other times feel like everything is falling apart. I hope you'll join us this weekend as we continue to explore what it means to be a faithful but flawed follower of Christ. Also, remember that it is a Family Worship Weekend, which means we will have activites in worship for the whole family, so bring your kiddos with you to worship this weekend!
This weekend is your last opportunity to fill out a 'Prayers, Hopes and Dreams Card' to be included in the foundation of our new sanctuary floor. Remember to bring those back with you or email them to me before Sunday night. Also, at each one of our worship services we are planning to take a special benevolent offering that will go directly to meet the needs of those individuals and families who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. This is a very tangible way for us to be able to act swiftly as the living body of Christ. I hope you will join me in this!
In the meantime, enjoy another amazing Friday and hopefully I'll see you in worship, out in the community at First Fridays or perhaps at the Smokey James & the Avalanche show later tonight at the Record Bar. Doors open at 7:00pm.
In the meantime, be sure to read below in order to get better connected to the life of our church.
Many blessings and God's Peace,
Pastor Scott
Upcoming Events & Activities
Here are a few things happening soon in the life of the church.
Good and Beautiful God
Join Pastor Anne Williams on Thursdays starting September 7, 6:30-8 pm at 1508 Grand, for a 3-week study through the book Good and Beautiful God. Author James Bryan Smith believes that people can genuinely be transformed when we stop believing things that aren’t true about God and start trusting the truth that God is nothing but good and gracious. In his book, he invites us to practice certain exercises that allow us to see the world the way Jesus did and be transformed into apprentices of the Jesus way of life. For questions email Anne.Williams@cor.org.
Women’s Breakfast Series Kickoff
Saturday, September 9 | 9am | 1522 McGee
The school year has started and the Women's Breakfast Series is gearing back up again. Please join us as we continue the conversation started at the Women’s Evening as we hear from Kelly Sisney who will be interviewed by Shannon Endicott. It’s sure to be filled with lots of laughter and more tips on helping our outer face match our inner face. For more information, please contact Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.
September FaithWork
Join us and invite others Saturday, September 16, for our next FaithWork serving opportunity with our ministry partners! Projects range from painting to serving meals, cleaning up neighborhoods or playing with kids. Please invite a friend, family member, co-worker or even someone you just met at church to join RezDT’s journey to know, love and serve God out in the KC community. All you need are work clothes and a willing heart! Visitcor.org/downtown/faithwork for more information.
New Facilities Volunteer Team Forming!
With a growing congregation comes a growing need for access to space, and with that comes additional wear and tear on our beloved buildings. We need a group of people who would like to serve on our newly forming Facilities Volunteer Team. The many different ways that you can serve in this capacity range from hosting groups and classes to aiding in providing upkeep to the buildings and grounds. Don’t be shy, if this is something that you might be interested in doing or have questions, please email Kenny.DeCoursey@cor.org.
Looking for a small group Disciple 1 Bible study in Fairway?
Ten spots are available for this 24-week study in Fairway, KS, starting Monday, September, 11. Email Matt.Bisel@cor.org if interested.
