Greetings, RezDowntowners!
I hope you are doing well this Friday morning. It's amazing how fast the weather can change, it is downright cold outside! Needless to say, I hope you are staying nice and warm today. I want to thank all of you who dropped off blankets for the men at Kansas City Rescue Mission last weekend, I was overwhelmed by your generosity and I am positive today that each and every one of those blankets are being put to good use today! I am grateful for your gracious and generous response to God's call!
After last weekend's introduction to our series on Christianity and World Religions and our 'Sanctuary Sheet Rock Signing,' I am really looking forward to worship this weekend. We have a big weekend ahead of us, as we take a look at Hinduism. This is a going to be the first of several weekends where we can grow together, not only in our own faith, but in the understanding of others as well. Be sure to invite some friends or neighbors to join us in worship this weekend, and keep the string of perfect attendance alive and well.
Over the past two months we have received financial pledges from over 60% of our active members. Each year, my hope is that every member will return a commitment, as we draw nearer to the end of January we have very little time left to make your 2018 stewardship commitment to help fund the mission and ministry of our church. If you’ve yet to make your 2018 stewardship commitment, I want to invite you to take a moment to do so now! You can click here to make your commitment online or you can bring your commitment card with you to worship this weekend, and we’ll be sure to have a 2018 coffee mug waiting for you at church (stop by the connection point) as our thank you. Your giving matters – it is an expression of your faith and faithfulness, and it is a way of participating in, and making possible, every ministry of the church. Again, thank you to all who have returned your cards or made online commitments to date and thank you for your generosity all throughout 2017. Our finance department has asked me to share with you that 2017 year-end contribution statements will be mailed and emailed around Friday, January 26. If you have any questions about your giving, you can contact our Director of Finance and Accounting, Kelly Williams, a tKelly.williams@cor.org or 913-544-0777.
On Friday, January 26th at 6:30pm I want to invite you to join me for an extremely unique and important gathering that is taking place at our Leawood Campus. The All-Church Gathering 2018 is a time when members of every Resurrection campus come together for a time of all-church strategic visioning in order that we might live fully into God's purpose and vision for us in our multiple locations. I would love to see a whole bunch of RezDowntowners present as this is going to be a huge year for us in the city! Click here for more information, or to register for childcare. This year we'll be sure to have a RezDT seating section so that we can all sit together!
Lastly, our offices will be closed on Monday, January 15th or Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. However, just as our offices closed on Monday, we'd love for you to join us in honoring MLK's legacy by serving alongside other members of our community and church at our very first Serve Saturday of the year on Saturday, January 20th at 9am! We'll share more about this in worship this weekend.
I am so privileged to serve Christ alongside each and every one of you and I can't wait to see you in worship this weekend as we continue pursuing a faith that seeks deeper understanding! Until then, God's peace and blessings be with you.
Pastor Scott
In 2009 RezDT began its ministry, and as we started Master Detective & Federal Task Force Officer Mike Bailey, began right along with us. Mike is highly decorated with a multitude of Commendations, Awards and Medals, one being the FBI Shield of Bravery. I am sad to announce that Mike will be moving on to another position in Clay County. This weekend will be his last weekend on duty for the church. I hope you will be in worship and will be able to thank Mike for his service not only to Resurrection Downtown but to the city.
