[Daily Scripture] Daily Scripture Email – Devotion – Friday, 24 January 2014 “The tithe”

[Daily Scripture] Daily Scripture Email – Devotion – Friday, 24 January 2014 “The tithe”
A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to The Lord; it is holy to The Lord (Leviticus 27:30).
Because of verses like this, along with a myriad of others, I make no apology for urging all of us at Trinity to tithe our income back to God; to give 10% of all that God has given us.  Not only do I believe it to be a clear Biblical principle, but I experience the blessing of it in Jan and my life, and we witness the blessing of it in other people's lives.  And, oh the joy of seeing our tithes used for good in the lives of others.
If you're not quite there yet, I encourage you to keep moving forward in your willingness, and increasing ability, to present your tithe unto the Lord.  Amen.

Monday, 27 January 2014 “The Book of Numbers”
The Lord spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting in the Desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt.  He said "Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one.  You and Aaron are to number by their divisions...(Numbers 1: 1 - 3a).
The title for the 4th book of the Bible comes, rather unimaginatively from its opening verses above:  the "numbering" of the tribes, which, more or less takes up the first four chapters (one of the many reasons I'm NOT doing a verse by verse DSE on the OT, but rather, some of the highlights to give both a feel of the individual books, as well as a devotional aspect.   As we shall see throughout this week, there are a lot of inspiring moments in the Book of Numbers, just not so much in
the well, "numbers."  Have a good day.
Tuesday, 28 January 2014 “The Blessing of Aaron”
The Lord said to Moses, "Tell Aaron and his sons, 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites.  Say to them:
               The Lord bless you and keep you;
               The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
               The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.  (Numbers 6: 22-26)
For as long as I can remember, this has been the benediction for youth groups in the United Methodist Church.  It is a favorite of mine, and perhaps it's a favorite of yours.  It is now my prayer for you this day, and forever:  The Lord bless you and keep you... Amen.
