[Daily Scripture] Daily Scripture Email – Devotion – Wednesday,
29 January 2014 “Opportunity: Seized or Missed”
The Lord said to Moses, "Send some men to explore the land
of Canaan...They came back to Moses and Aaron and reported: "We went into the land to which you sent
us, and it does flow with milk and honey!
Here is its fruit. But the people
who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large...
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, 'We should go up and take
possession of the land, for we can certainly do it." But the men who
had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people;
they are stronger than we are."--Numbers 13:1,26-31.
Eventually, the crowd sided with the 10 who were controlled by
fear rather than with Joshua and Caleb who had great faith. That fateful
decision led to another 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, as do all
decisions made in fear rather than faith.
I'm not saying one should grasp every possibility that presents itself,
but simply this: that when a path of promise and faith lies ahead and we know
we should take it, to fail to move forward is never a good idea; to act in fear
(see the movie "Frozen"), rather than in faith and love always
results in "wanderings in the desert" for a long time. Choose faith over fear - always.
