The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United States Weekly Enote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 16 January 2015

Friday, January 16, 2015,
Greetings RezDowntowners,
It is great to be writing you on such a beautiful Friday morning after what really has been a great week of ministry in downtown KC.  On Wednesday morning our Resurrection Men’s Breakfast hosted a Kansas City Royals great, Willie Mays Aikens, for an inspirational kick-off to the new year.  We had a fantastic turnout to hear his remarkable story of redemption.  We also had great attendance and participation as we launched the first of several 2015 community groups and studies!  There’s still room in several of our community groups (Men's, Women's, and A Disciple's Path), so please be sure to check them out as these community groups and studies provide great opportunities to get connected with others while also growing in the knowledge and love of God.
This weekend is special too, as we will have more opportunities to get engaged than normal as we take time to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy by going out into the community putting our faith to work on Saturdaymorning.  If you haven’t ever participated in our Faithwork, this would be a great opportunity to start off 2015!  Invite some friends and join us at church by 9am on Saturday morning and then we’ll head out into the city together to serve.  It will be great fun and very meaningful!  Afterward, those who are interested can head over to Arthur Bryant’s for barbecue as a part of Pastor Todd’s BBQ club!
Finally, this weekend we are continuing our sermon series on Half-Truths by talking about how, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.”   This is our third sermon in this series and it will be a powerful topic that has pertained or will pertain to each of us at some point in our lives.  It’s a message that we don’t want you to miss.
In the meantime, here are several ways to get connected to the life of this church community:
January FaithWork – Start the new year off right by serving Kansas City! Join us Saturday, Jan. 17, at 9 am at the church (1522 McGee) wearing clothes that can get dirty, and we will send you out to serve in the community until lunch time. We will serve at the KC Rescue Mission and a local elementary school. We will also have an activity for kids where they will put together treat bags and then deliver them to those in need. It will be a huge day and you will want to be a part of it! Contact Todd.Maberry@cor.org for questions.
FaithWork Knitting Group also meets Saturday, Jan. 17 at 9am in the loft at 1522 McGee. Join us as we make baby and children’s hats, prayer shawls and lap robes. No experience needed – we will teach several easy styles. For questions or more information, contact Beth Cannon at bethcannon@sbcglobal.net or 816-590-2009.
BBQ Club – Pastor Todd is eager to discover the best BBQ in Kansas City, and tries a new place on the thirdSaturday of each month. This month, the BBQ Club is heading to a KC classic: Arthur Bryant’s (1727 Brooklyn Avenue, KC, MO). If you love BBQ, plan to meet Pastor Todd on Saturday, Jan. 17, around 12:30 pm (after FaithWork).
