Dear Friends,
Your 2014 giving statements will be sent out this week. Thanks for your faithful giving this past year. In summary, we received about $70,000 less than we budgeted, but we also spent about $60,000 less than we budgeted for a net loss of about $10,000, which, in the light of paying off our mortgage, funding our new playground and receiving most of what we need for the new Welcome Center/Hub, and lots of giving to missions and outreach, is not a bad year, though still something we want to watch.
It's NOT too late to join the "Mindfulness Meditation" class; it meets tonight at 6:30pm in room 209/210. Tomorrow night's program - The Myth and Magic of Florida Springs - by Trinity's own Rick Kilby, is at6:30, right after our Wednesday night dinner, in room 232.
I'm excited that we have 90 men signed up for our Men's Retreat this Saturday morning, and I'm sure this number will jump by 30 more or so when you read the menu Chef Franny is preparing for us: Buttermilk Waffles, Blueberry Compote and Maple Syrup, Sausage, Bananas and Mandarin Oranges, Coffee, Juice! We will start eating at 7:45. It's going to be a great morning; hope to see you guys there.
So many of you have expressed an appreciation for our current focus on John and Charles Wesley, and your desire to learn more, so we have decided to show the movie about Wesley's life - two showings: Monday, February 9th at 2pm and Sunday, February 15th at 6pm, both in room 232. After these dates, you can check the movie out of the bookstore. Also, Adam Hamilton's book, "Revival" is an excellent introduction to the Wesleys and the Wesleyan, Methodist movement; it's also in our bookstore.
I'll be preaching this Sunday on another aspect of our tradition that is so vital: works of mercy; outward expressions of inward grace. Also, our new Sonlight Director, Erin Cushing, will be directing Sonlight for the very first time; be sure to be present to give her a warm welcome. And, if you like to sing, please consider joining one of our other two choirs: Chalice (8:15) - meets at 7:00 on Tuesday nights, and Chancel (11:00) meets at 7:00 on Thursday nights in the choir room. God bless, Dan |

A Word from Rev. Aaron
Friends, Lenora, our kids, and I are so grateful for the time we had in the mountains last week. It is hard to believe the first month of 2015 is almost over! And, just like always, there is so much going on around Trinity this week. Two things in particular I would like for you to know about... First, my wife Lenora will be preaching at the6:35 service on Wednesday as part of her clergy candidate paperwork. Hope to see you there and support her in this endeavor. Second, I am thrilled that you will get to meet Erin Cushing on Sunday when she makes her debut as the new Director of Sonlight. Peace be with you. |

Also, a portion will be given to the district to help fund their scholarship program and district camps. Scouting builds leadership skills and character development in our youth to help them succeed in life.

The next time you're in the grocery stores please remember we are need of can goods for our food collection. Now that the holidays are over there is even more need for food for families. Please drop any of these donations in the blue BOGO bins in the narthex of the Worship Center or the Reception Area of the Education Building.

There will be a gathering at the home of Frank and Nancy Moses and you will have a chance to meet William Udatong the Provost of the Seminary. For more information please contact Frank Moses at 352-316-4197 or Nancy Moses at 352-316-4470. This is one of our missions that specifically targets evangelism. I pray that we may all find ways to share Jesus Christ with the world.
- Are You A Runner? There is an opportunity to run in the Ragnar Relay, April 10-11, 2015 in Southern California. The race runs from Huntington Beach, CA to San Diego, CA. and the proceeds that we raise go to help our community in Malawi. Faith Mission
Faith Mission, at 3701 NE 15th Street, is a collaboration of Trinity, Mt. Pleasant UMC, and the surrounding neighborhood. On Saturday we held a Volunteer Work Day and there were 45 people who participated (including folks from the neighborhood, Mt. Pleasant, and Trinity). In about 4 hours working together we got all kinds of work done - pulled up the old carpet, removed old appliances, thoroughly cleaned the kitchen and the Kids Count building, painted everywhere (nobody stood still or they might have gotten painted!), set up picnic tables, picked up trash, trimmed trees, and cleaned up some of the grounds.
Many of the volunteers on Saturday wrote on the "Prayers for Faith Mission" banner writing of faith, blessings, God's presence, trust, God's love, and journeying together. Thanks to everyone who came out, worked hard, and helped make Saturday a blessed day of work and fellowship.
What's all this cleaning/painting/fixing up about? I'm glad you asked! It's about improving the space for children's programs at Faith Mission like Kids Count and SNAP; it's about demonstrating to the neighborhood that there is new vitality and initiative at this property; and it's about creating great new spaces for transformative ministries in the months ahead.
There are some additional tasks that we need help on with volunteers, particularly painting, that we really would like to finish up in the next several weeks. If your Sunday School class or small group is interested in helping out on this, please email meand let me know. Thanks. |
