"How Long, O Lord?"
"Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in anguish. How Long, O Lord, how long?" (Psalm 6: 2,3)
I hope this is NOT your prayer this morning, or, to say it better, I hope there isn't the need for this to be your prayer this morning, but this I know: there will be times/days when this is your prayer.
Just as I don't know what was going on for David when he prayed it, so I won't know what's going on for you, but this I also know: David and you and I, after praying this can also turn to another of David's Psalms: 23 - the one that begins: "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..." Some days both realities are true, but always the "my Shepherd" reality is absolutely and forever true, and makes the "How Long" reality bearable.
