HeBrews. The Sunday, September 20 fellowship is sponsored by the Health Ministry in recognition of Men's Health Month. All men are encouraged to attend a panel discussion at 9:45 a.m. during HeBrews. Individuals, ministries or groups wishing to sponsor a fellowship should contact Lisa Hardwick at

Business Expo. St. James business owners are invited to share information with the congregation about the vast array of available services and products they offer during an event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 in the Great Hall. Back to Church Sunday. Don't forget to invite someone to worship this Sunday at 8am or 11am at the Paseo Campus or 10am at the Renaissance Campus.
Sermon Series. In celebration of Back to Church Sunday, Pastor Cleaver begins a new sermon series, "A Sunday Kind of Love," this Sunday, September 20. This series is based on the two commandments Jesus lifted up in Matthew 22: 37-39, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
This series explores how we live out that kind of love.

NLDT. If you're a ministry leader, please plan to attend the next NLDT workshop, Saturday, October 10 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Ministry Mall. The focus will be leaders who pray for effective ministry.
New Disciple Orientation. This group will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Membership Room.
New Bible Study. Get ready to learn and grow with a new St. James Bible study. Come seeking and asking as Dr. Cleaver and the St. James ministry team explore the miracles of Jesus and the mysteries of the Bible. Weekly sessions will be at 7 p.m. Thursdays, beginning this week, Sept. 17, at the Paseo campus.
Covenant Disciple Groups. If you're among those who signed up , don't miss one the training sessions Saturday, September 19 OR 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Each group is required to attend the training together. For more information, contact Crystal Hart-Johnson at

Teachers' Institute. All current Sunday School teachers, and anyone interested in becoming a teacher, should plan to attend this training Saturday, October 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Ministry Mall.
Men's Weekend. "Men at Work" is this year's theme. Activities span October 16-18 and include the following events:
Friday "100 Men" Fellowship Dinner with Pastor Cleaver from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Peach Tree Buffet. Tickets are $15 and now available before or after worship at the Welcome Center. Don't wait until October; give your annual Men's Day offering of $40 when you purchase your ticket to the fellowship dinner.
Saturday Breakfast with family and community outreach;
Sunday worship celebration with the announcement of Youth of the Year and Man of the Year.
Dr. Gregory C. Ellison II, Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, is our guest preacher. Autographed copies of Dr. Ellison's book, "Cut Dead but Still Alive: Caring for African American Young Men" are available for purchase here on the church website.

Surviving the Holidays. This annual GriefShare event is designed to provide coping strategies, especially for those facing the first holiday without a loved one, will be held Thurs., Nov. 19. Watch for more information in future communications.

Health Ministry
Free blood pressure screenings after 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship Sunday, September 20.
The Health Ministry will highlight men's health issues during a panel discussion Sunday, September 20 during HeBrews. All men are encouraged to attend.

Nursery Volunteers. St. James is recruiting volunteers to serve in the Sunday nursery during 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship. If you're interested in volunteering, contact Pastor Andre' at

Girl Scouts. Troop 3335 meets every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Great Hall. Goals of the group include fellowship, community service, personal engagement, increased confidence and self esteem, exposure to new experiences, forming healthy relationships and personal engagement. Meetings focus on age-appropriate journeys and a snack/meal will be provided at each meeting. The annual $15 membership fee is due to both girls and adults. Additional fees will be added throughout the year to cover costs of some activities. Registration for both girls and adult leaders is open throughout the year, but official registration is required prior to attending a meeting. For more information, contact Carmellya Anderson at

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Come join the fun Tuesday, September 22 at 6pm to sign up for Cub Scouts (Grades 1-5) or Boy Scouts (Grades 6-12)! Current and new scouts should plan to attend with their parents for registration. Information will also be available about the September 25 Family Campout and the October 16-18 Fall Camporee - both at Lake of the Woods in Swope Park.
Mustard Seeds Choir. Children ages five to 11 are invited to join the choir. Rehearsals are held Saturdays at 10 a.m. in the Vaughn Chapel. Please note upcoming rehearsals: Sept. 26; Oct. 3, 10, 24 and 31 and Nov. 7, 14 and 28. For more information, contact Jennifer Booker at jenrbooker@yahoo.com.
Youth Confirmation. The 2016 Confirmation Class begins this Sunday at at 9:45 a.m. in the Great Hall Conference Room (sanctuary lower level). Confirmation refers to the decision a young person makes to respond to God with an intentional commitment, publicly affirming or reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation. Most confirmands are youth between the ages of 11 and 14, who have been nurtured in the church since their baptism as an infant or young child. Most churches offer a deliberate time of preparation before this service. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings and The United Methodist Church; and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing.
Town Hall Meeting. Plan now to attend the next Town Hall Sun., Sept. 27 during Hebrews to which all parents, children and youth are asked to attend. There will be information regarding the year of activities and other opportunities available to children within Next Generation Ministries.
Youth Ministry. During 2016, St. James will revise the church's youth ministry program. Please fill out a survey, which will be listed on the church website and also available from any youth leader or Sunday School teacher.
