Tuesday Word for Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Florida, United States
Tuesday Word for Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm

Dear Friends,
What an awesome first Sunday back! Wonderful music, super greeters and coffee makers, and just a wonderful spirit. As one of our first time visitors said, "I felt welcomed at Trinity from the moment I parked my car!" That's Extravagant Welcoming! And this next Sunday, I've learned that the Welcome Center will be ready for us to serve coffee from inside it! An official dedication will be later in September.
Also, this coming Sunday we are very pleased to have Dr. Owen Roberts as our guest preacher! Dr. Roberts is the Superintendent of Alachua County Schools, is an excellent speaker and also an outstanding preacher. I hope you will all be there to support this champion of education and children. Dr. Roberts will be preaching at the 9:40 and 11:00 services. I'll preach at the 8:15 service.
If you would like to learn about and experience the beauty and power of the Book of Psalms, and also become a part of a 10 week, small group experience and meet some new people, I encourage you to sign up for "Invitation to Psalms." It begins September 13 at 9:30 in rm 224, and is led by Dr. Orvin Jenkins. Be sure to sign up.
The bricks around the Welcome Center look great, and especially the engraved ones! If you didn't get around to ordering one, don't worry, as we will have another offering toward the end of the year. And a huge thanks to Trinity member, Scott Robinson of Robinson Renovation and Custom Homes who donated all the engraving of the bricks, which allowed the money to be used to cover some of the cost of the Welcome Center. If you have ordered your brick but haven't paid for it yet, please bring your $100 check, payable to Trinity UMC, and drop it off at the church (please include "Engraved Brick" on the memo line).
And finally, we are very pleased to announce that Shannon Rosselle will be the new Pastors' Administrative Assistant, starting September 1. I know you will want to welcome her warmly; here is a brief word about her: Shannon is originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and still counts the beach among her favorite places, though Gainesville has been her home since she set foot on the University of Florida campus as an undergrad. A wife and mother of two, she has previously worked in the hospitality management field and is looking forward to new experiences as part of the Trinity team. When she is not enjoying time with family, Shannon can be found reading, planning adventures for her Brownie Girl Scout Troop and contemplating signing up for her second marathon (maybe!).
Love and Prayers, Dan

A Message from Rev. Aaron

Friends,
It has now been more than a week since I returned from Malawi and I'm feeling back in the rhythm of things here at Trinity. It's a good thing, too, since Gabrielle started 7th grade and Nathan started 1st grade yesterday. My prayers are with all of you as you return to your routines, as well. Four things:
I finally took the time to write my first blog about the trip to Malawi. You can read it here.
I hope you'll join us on Wednesday, September 9th, at 5:30 for a free spaghetti dinner and stick around for a special presentation in the Worship Center on the trip to Malawi and all the other mission work that happened by and through Trinity this summer.
We are continuing our series on the Sermon on the Mount at the 6:35 service. Hope to see you in the chapel tomorrow night.
I'll be teaching Christian Believer this fall, Sunday afternoons starting September 13th. You can sign up for that here.
Grace and peace be with you,
Aaron

Faith Mission
Ward Simonton
One of the ways Faith Mission serves in the neighborhood is by partnering with other organizations such as Kids Count in Alachua County, Stop Now & Plan, Hogtown FC, Peaceful Paths, and Rawlings Elementary. How are we identifying our partners this year? We're using the following guidelines for our 2015 partnering relationships: Will it help meet a need in the neighborhood? Will it empower individuals or families? Will it help build relationship and trust? Will it strengthen capacity? Will the program have good leadership? Will needs in organization, time, funds, and/or volunteers be reasonable? Will the Faith Mission facility be adequate (if a program on-site)?
This week at Faith Mission:
Kids Count, the after school program serving kindergarten through 3rd grade students, begins operating five days per week at Faith Mission this week (3 - 5:30pm)! 20 children are enrolled and there is already a significant waiting list.
There will be a monthly time of prayer for the neighborhood, for the work of Faith Mission, and for individual prayer concerns beginning THIS THURSDAY, August 27, from 6:30 to 7 pm and will continue on September 17, October 15,November 19, and December 17. All are invited and welcome.
Hogtown FC will continue soccer training sessions Saturday morning at Rawlings. There is a need for more regular, easy-access activities for children in the neighborhood, and soccer is a great addition. 20 children turned out for the first session last week!
Many thanks to those who've responded to volunteer in various ways recently. An updated list of Faith Mission volunteer opportunities can be accessed here, check it out!
