Tuesday Word for Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Florida, United States
Tuesday Word for Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm

Dear Friends,
I am writing to ask you to consider giving an extra offering to this week's (September 6) Mission Box - it is for "Persecuted Christians Around the Globe." This is a serious, horrendous happening, and, while we can't solve it, we can and must do our part. Most of this week's offering will go to support the Ministry of Rev. Augustine Joseph, the Christian Pastor from Pakistan that we met at Trinity two weeks ago. His family and his congregation have suffered greatly. In addition, we want to send some of our offering to help those Christians in Syria and Iraq and Iran; we may do this through UMCOR; I am open to agencies that you may know of (please let me know of any credible agencies you are aware of).
Also - I believe ALPHA is the best "short course in Christianity" offered anywhere. It's 10 weeks of fellowship, food, inspiration, and you learn the key truths of our Faith, while making great friends! I encourage anyone and everyone to take this course - it begins on Thursday, September 17, with a preview night on September 10. You can find more information and register here.
Love and Prayers,
Dan

Friends,
Fall must be approaching because there sure is a lot happening at Trinity! All good things and may they be all God things, too! Several quick things:
  • I wrote my second blog about the trip to Malawi. You can read it here. I will post the third entry later this week (after I finish preparing my sermons for Wednesday and Sunday).
  • Many of you have been asking to hear more about Malawi, so I hope you'll join us onWednesday, September 9th, at 5:30 for a free spaghetti dinner and stick around for a special presentation in the Worship Center on the trip to Malawi and all the other mission work that happened by and through Trinity this summer.
  • We are continuing our series on the Sermon on the Mount at the 6:35 service. Hope to see you in the chapeltomorrow night where we will be discussing Fasting for Grace, Matthew 6:16-18.
  • I will be kicking off a short sermon series on the life of King David on Sunday - God Chooses Us, 1 Samuel 16:1-13.
  • I will be leading Christian Believer beginning with an orientation on Sunday, September 13th at 3:30pm. Several of you have already signed up but there is always room for more. Sign up online or at the discipleship table at the back of the Worship Center on Sunday.
Have a great week everyone!
Grace and peace be with you,
Aaron

Faith Mission
Ward Simonton
  • The work of Faith Mission parallels a portion of Dr. Owen Roberts' message this past Sunday. There are external factors in the Faith Mission neighborhood, some positive and some negative, that impact children and families. There are individual factors (e.g. health, capacity, education, faith) that impact each person's well-being who lives in the neighborhood. From Faith Mission's perspective there are the ways that our faith guides us, motivates us, and inspires us as we serve with our new neighbors. It was good having Dr. Roberts share with Trinity and there will be opportunities for Faith Mission to further partner with the school system in the months ahead.
  • This week at Faith Mission
  • Are you wondering how to get involved with Faith Mission? We are partnering with Greenhouse Church and Rawlings Elementary to organize and support mentors for 4th and 5th grade students who will truly benefit. Serving as a mentor to an elementary student is a wonderful way to provide encouragement to a child. Mentors are asked to commit 30 minutes a week during the lunch period (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) to visit, encourage, and be a friend with a student. Please email me if you would like learn more!
  • Many thanks to those who've responded to volunteer in various ways recently. An updated list of Faith Mission volunteer opportunities (particularly ways to serve for people not on the Leadership Team) can be accessedhere. Check it out and feel free to share.
  • In terms of programming this week - Kids Count, the after school program serving K - 3rd grade, is in operation at Faith Mission daily and Hogtown FC will continue soccer training sessions Saturday morning at Rawlings.
  • Listening and learning are a priority of Faith Mission, and we're continuing our outreach using "conversational surveys" with residents in the neighborhood to introduce Faith Mission, gather input, and talk with those who may be interested in serving with us in the months ahead.Want to get involved?
