Friday, August 21, 2015,
Greetings RezDowntowners,
I apologize for my tardiness in today’s eNote. Last night at around 7:00pm, my laptop became officially non-responsive. Against writing deadlines today at noon, I have been scrambling trying to save lost data and reassemble my thoughts. It has been a crazy day to be sure, and to make things more interesting, the Blue Angels have been flying all through the skies here. It has been so cool to see them flying in formation as they prepare for this weekend’s Downtown Air Show!
This weekend we’ll be continuing our sermon series on Searching for Truth: What Christians Believe and Why. All series long we’ll be using the Apostle’s Creed as an outline for these sermons. Last weekend we considered the question, Is There a God? This weekend we’re considering Jesus Christ. Pastor Adam will be preaching a message entitled, “More Than a Rabbi?” We’ll look at what Christians believe about Jesus, why they believe it, and why it matters. Invite friends and join us on this important and relevant journey rooted in tough questions about the essentials of our life and faith. Also, if you consider RezDowntown to be your church home, please consider attending either of our evening services on Saturday and Sunday or our service on Grand at 10:15am. By doing so, you’ll help us continue to make space for people who don’t yet have a church home or who are wrestling with the very questions we’re asking this weekend!
Lastly, I am so excited to share that we have over thirty children registered for tomorrow’s Parenting Workshop in the morning. That means we’ll have a little more than double the amount of parents in attendance as well. It is going to be a really great morning led by Pastor Anne Williams and Kelly Sisney. I’m excited to see the fruit coming forth from this workshop, but I’m also so thankful for all of our volunteers who committed to helping out in caring for our children during this workshop! I love that we are the kind of community that steps up to serve so willingly whenever needed! You are an absolute blessing.
In the meantime, here are a bunch of ways to connect to the life of this church in the coming weeks. Please take some time to check them out.

Take Your Bible Outside! Outside the walls of the church that is! We are excited to team up with the Kansas City Rescue Mission for a study of the Apostle Paul. Join us as we build community by going outside the walls of the church! Meet us Thursdays, Sept. 3-24, at 6 pm at the KC Rescue Mission, 1520 Cherry St., Kansas City, MO. Paul was one of the driving forces of the growth of Christianity. The Bible contains many of the letters he wrote encouraging new Christians in the various towns where he traveled to spread the good news of God’s grace through Jesus. In this study, we’ll explore the letter he wrote to Colossians – a different chapter each week. The only cost to register? Toilet paper! Yes, we will be collecting rolls of TP to donate to the Rescue Mission. For more information, visit rezdowntown.org/paulstudy or contact PastorTodd.Maberry@cor.org.
rezlife Programming for Middle School Students is “under reconstruction.” Sarah Brischle, our new Children’s Director, will be reaching out to parents for input on this programming. Stay tuned! Until then, rezlife will not be meeting on Sundays at 10:45 am.
Leadership Institute Volunteer Opportunity – Join volunteers from all Resurrection campuses at Leawood to welcome guests for Leadership Institute 2015, September 30th – October 2nd. Be a part of our vision to renew churches by providing hospitality and support to these guests coming from churches across the nation. They come to be equipped, renewed and inspired to “Go and Lead” back in their own ministry settings. Many volunteers are needed to provide Resurrection hospitality including: Greeters, Ushers, Direction Hosts, Parking Lot Greeters, Workshop Hosts, Registration Hosts, Meal and Break Hosts and more.
