Daily Scripture:
Matthew 6:
31 “So don’t be anxious, asking, ‘What will we eat?,’ ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘How will we be clothed?’ 32 For it is the pagans who set their hearts on all these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need them all. 33 But seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Don’t worry about tomorrow — tomorrow will worry about itself! Today has enough tsuris already! (Complete Jewish Bible).
Prayer Tip:
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)
This week in church we will focus on what God would say to our graduates. One thing I believe God would say, and I wish I could say to my younger self, is, “Run your own race.” I spent so much time focusing on what others were doing and accomplishing I did not spend much time asking God what he was calling me to do.
I believe God calls us each to run our own race. God isn’t calling me to be a better Christian than Adam Hamilton or Karen Lampe. He IS calling me to be a more deeply-committed Christian today than I was yesterday. Some days I run the race strong and proud, and make great gains. Some days I find myself limping and crawling, but as long my movement is forward, I believe that is still what God is calling me to do.
This week, pray about the race God is calling you to run, at whatever stage of life you are in. Aim to keep moving forward, looking, praying and searching for God’s purposes for you. Without growth we become stagnant. Just as we celebrate our graduates, join God in celebrating your growth as you reach new milestones.
Dear God,
We know we have a long race in front us. Bless this year’s graduates as they enter a new kind of race. Give them, and us, the strength and perseverance they need to complete the race you have called us all to run. Amen. (Ashly Cooley, Counseling & Support Ministries)
