NTS enjoyed a wonderful commencement weekend in May and is now in full swing for summer classes and events.
As we look toward the fall, I am excited to announce that Dr. Susan Carole, Dr. Eric Severson, and Dr. Nell Becker Sweeden have been elected by the faculty and approved by the Board of Trustees to serve as affiliate faculty of Nazarene Theological Seminary. As affiliate faculty, they will play a vital role in the NTS learning community by teaching and assisting with curriculum development in their respective areas of specialization. This status is a recognition of their contributions, each already having significant teaching experience with NTS, outstanding student reviews, and demonstrated expertise in their field of study. In addition, NTS recognizes their ongoing contributions to the church through ministerial leadership and critical research.
President Jeren Rowell noted, “We are grateful for the ways Susan, Eric, and Nell have impacted our students and the church through their teaching and scholarship. We now look forward to their heightened role in our learning community through their consistent teaching and shaping of courses and curriculum as we engage in the work of preparing faithful and effective ministers of the Gospel for a changing world.”
Rev. Dr. Susan Carole (Ph.D., Calvin Seminary) will serve as Affiliate Professor of Historical Theology. She is the Lead Pastor at San Bernardino Church of the Nazarene. In addition to NTS, she has taught at Wesley Theological Seminary and Calvin Theological Seminary. Among her publications are Called Into Communion: A Paradigm Shift in Holiness Theology and Community Mosaic: Competencies for Multicultural Ministries.
Rev. Dr. Eric Severson (Ph.D., Boston University) will serve as Affiliate Professor of Philosophy of Religion. He is Instructor of Philosophy at Seattle University and Senior Research Fellow at Boston College, having previously taught at Eastern Nazarene College, Seattle Pacific University, and Northwest Nazarene University. He is the author various works, including Scandalous Obligation: Rethinking Christian Responsibility and Levinas’s Philosophy of Time: Gift, Responsibility, Diachrony, Hope.
The Peace of our Lord,
Dr. Josh Sweeden
