Last night we completed our second of two volunteer training nights as we prepare for our move-in and Grand Opening at 1601 Grand. Our building is still a work in progress, but it has been so fun to see over 300 volunteers tour the space and get trained on providing excellent hospitality and welcome to every person who enters our space starting in the parking lot and leading all the way to the altar. I am grateful to have so many people respond to God's call in this way! It is really exciting and I'm looking forward to seeing how your service and compassion transforms the heart of this city!
Given that our Grand Opening is almost here, I want to be sure that you are following us on social media. If you haven’t yet, check out this video on our Facebook page and share it with others to let them know about our grand opening weekend, June 2 and 3. Everyone is invited! Also, we are posting updates daily on both our Instagram and Facebook pages, including progress photos and some fun highlights about what's going on in the city, so be sure to like us.
Yesterday, we had a big group of volunteers and supporters show up to serve and celebrate at Wendell Phillips End of the Year Fun Day. We cheered and rejoiced as the students were able to give a $6100 check to the City Union Mission as a part of their Generosity Challenge through the Tiger Store. This was an amazing act of selfless compassion and generosity and I am so proud of their efforts all year long. It is a privilege to be connected to this amazing community of students, faculty and staff!
This weekend in worship we are hosting our last worship services in our space at 1522 McGee before we open up our new space on Grand. I will be preaching live this weekend and spending time looking at the second chapter of Acts, the story of the church's beginning. This weekend we'll talk about the power of remembering and its catalytic role in helping us leap forward into a future filled with hope. It is going to be a powerful Memorial Day Weekend, one to remember and be a part of for sure. I hope you'll join us and experience 1522 McGee, one last time!
Lastly, I want to be sure to share that in light of Memorial Day Weekend there will not be a RezDads Meeting this weekend. The RezDads will take a break this month. Enjoy your time at home or traveling with your families Memorial Day Weekend and we’ll see you at worship or later in June! Visit cor.org/downtown/getconnected to sign up for monthly updates.
It is so amazing to be a part of this church and community. There are some big things underway and I'm excited to see where God leads us. Please continue to pray for our church, for this city, and for God to lead you with a spirit of boldness and courage as you invite others to join us on this amazing journey of knowing, loving and serving God! I'll see you this weekend!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
