Blue Springs, Missouri, United States = The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs for Friday, 31 October 2014
Take a quick look at our upcoming events/activites below:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Happy Halloween everyone! This has been a great week.  We had an awesome time last Sunday afternoon with our Trunk and Treat. I would guess we had at least 200 children and parents here for all the fun. You can see pictures of the afternoon on ourfacebook pageWhat a beautiful day for all the festivities too!   Then to watch the Royals almost take the crown was very exciting. And for me, today I get to watch my beautiful granddaughter all day.  It doesn't get much better than that!
This Sunday we begin a new sermon series entitled How Will You Measure Your Life?  This series is based on the book of the same name by Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christenson who asks his students every year how they will apply the theories of business and organizations to their own lives to ensure that they are happy, successful, have enduring relationships with the most significant people in their lives and live a life of integrity. We'll look at how we might achieve the same results using a scriptural reference. This is an important series.  I hope you'll come and invite your friends to join us.
We have a great opportunity that will tie into this series when we address, in two weeks, "how we serve."  We are offering a two day "Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts" workshop on Friday evening, November 14 and Saturday morning, November 15 to help you discover where and how you should say "yes" with those limited hours you have available for serving.   We'll use several assessments, taking into account your spiritual gifts, personality, passion and experience, to determine the place that will give you the most joy in serving.  You can sign up at Guest Services this Sunday.  There are more details below.
Here is what's coming up:
Ever felt a call into ministry? Come to the luncheon this Sunday at our Leawood campus. The Answer Your Call Luncheon is this Sunday, Nov. 2, 12:30-2pm, Leawood Campus Rm. B200. You will learn more about the programs our church and denomination have established to guide and support those who feel called to full-time ministry. Learn more at cor.org/pathways.
Coffee With The Pastor Are you considering joining Resurrection? Then come to our next “Coffee with the Pastor.” You’ll learn more about the church, get to know our pastor and review membership expectations. Join us Monday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 pm. Childcare is available on request.  Register online here.
Bonfire and HayrideJoin us Nov. 9 at 4 pm at the Wolverton’s Farm for some great family fun at our annual Bonfire and Hayride.  Wolvertons live about 15 minutes from the church towards Buckner, MO (map).  We’ll gather behind their home on a beautiful bluff that provides a wonderful place to build a bonfire and take in the changing leaves of fall below and to watch the sun set.  Randy will have his tractor and trailor ready with hay bales for a ride through the grove around their property.  There will be hot dogs, smores, and hot apple cider.  Come out to experience this family-friendly evening and build community with others from Rez Blue Springs.  Bring a lawn chair and if you’d like to help contribute bring a side dish to share.  Feel free to invite your friends to join us too.
Discover Your Spiritual Gifts Come and learn how God has gifted you and where your dreams and passions might lead you to serve. You’ll study the Bible, use personal assessments, have a chance to make new friends and receive personalized ideas and contacts for putting your gifts into action. Join us Friday, Nov. 14, 6:30 - 8:30 pm (dinner included), and Saturday, Nov. 15, 8:30 am – 12:15 pm (continental breakfast included) for this workshop. Sign up at Guest Services or online here.
Power of Gratitude -  Each year we have the opportunity to make a financial commitment to support Resurrection's vision of changing lives, transforming communities and renewing the church.  This annual commitment allows each of us to evaluate our giving, what it means and how much it can be for the coming year.  It also helps our church to determine a more accurate budget for Resurrection's ministries.  Giving and commitment information will be mailed this week.  Thank you for taking the time to pray about your giving.  We invite you to return your commitment cards during worship, by mail or on-line at cor.org/commitment
Daylight Savings is this weekend, so be sure to set your clocks back 1 hour on Saturday night, November 1st.
Looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday!
Abundant Blessings,
Penny
