Record Rainfall in Port Vila, Vanuatu |
| David and Sylvia are missionaries to Vanuatu in the Asia-Pacific Region. Sylvia sent the following story:
Recently, the Port Vila area received more than 11 inches of rain in two days, causing rivers in the area to overflow their banks. We heard this story from Makfin, women's ministry leader for Black Sand Church of the Nazarene.
I started thinking about my brother's girl who lives near Prima River, having heard reports that the river was very high. I walked over and found the river so high that I could not get over it. The mobile police were tying a rope around people wanting to cross and dragging them across. Occasionally, those being pulled across were holding babies above their heads. The police helped my niece and her two children cross over to where I was. My niece told me later that the river started coming into their house, so she took the two small ones and ran, looking for a place to cross but they were trapped.
Two men lost their lives in Prima River that day. We are thankful for the safety of this young mother and her two small children and that more people did not drown. Makfin brought them to Black Sand to care for them and has provided clothes, food, and shelter. She has also introduced them to her church. After the waters receded, they returned to the flooded home and gardens, and Makfin helped the young mother salvage what they could. Makfin modeled the compassionate caring heart of Christ in the simple, loving way that she ministered to someone in need.
Thank the Lord for compassionate believers like Makfin, and pray that God will use their service to draw more people into His kingdom. Pray for the young mother and her family, that they will know Christ’s salvation. Also, please remember the families of those who lost loved ones in the recent flooding in Vanuatu. |

HEALTH-RELATED REQUESTS |
Kucey Children |
| Darin and Tonya Kucey are missionaries to Haiti. Tonya wrote recently that their three children—Ryan, Cory and Karissa—are all ill and have been for some time. Cory and Karissa, who are with their parents in Haiti, have had an illness similar to dengue fever. Karissa continues to have pain caused by that, plus, in the last month, she also contracted an infection that caused sores all over her legs. In addition to the other illness, Cory has suffered the effects of other illnesses. A few weeks ago, their oldest son, Ryan, who is in college in Canada, became very sick. Please pray for the Kucey children, that they will recover fully and soon. Also, pray for Darin and Tonya as they attempt to care for two children at home, are concerned for one thousands of miles away, and trying to continue to minister in Haiti. |
