Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The Church of the Resurrection Downtown An Enote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 21 November 2014
Greetings RezDowntowners,
What a great week it has been in Downtown Kansas City!  We have been actively engaged in mission and ministry all week long and it has been exciting.  In fact, I’m writing you Friday morning in anticipation of a great Thanksgiving Celebration at Wendell Phillips Elementary School.  It is going to be a ton of fun celebrating Thanksgiving with some of our favorite elementary school students and teachers in KCMO.  If you’re interested in helping out, please emailKris.Drummond@cor.org and she’ll be happy to share with you the information required to join us.
Also, this weekend in worship we’ll be spending time giving great thanks as we prepare for Thanksgiving next Thursdayand the season of Advent that will follow.  This really is the most wonderful time of the year and I hope you’ll join us in worship as we look forward to the night when Christ was born, while at the same time giving thanks for all that we’ve experienced by God’s grace.  Greater things are still to be done in the city!
Lastly, as we continue to approach the holiday season, one of the things I am so thankful for is your generosity.  All week long we have been receiving visits from RezDowntowners at our church offices.  You have brought forth winter jackets by the hundreds, you have volunteered your time in service and you have shared lots and lots of food for people who might not have much to eat this season.  It has been awesome to experience your generosity in such a powerful way this week.  Thank you, this is one of the many reasons why I am proud to be your pastor.
Below are several ways to get connected to the life of this church over the coming weeks:
”The 6 C’s of Marriage” Class. Pastors Scott and Wendy Chrostek invite you to join them Saturday, Nov. 22, from8:30 am – noon at 1522 McGee for a morning of relationship building. While our marriages might not be in trouble, that doesn’t mean we couldn’t use a tune up from time to time. You’ll learn practical tools about how to enhance your relationship and have fun connecting with other couples. A light breakfast will be provided. Childcare available for infant – 5th grade. To register to attend this event and for childcare needs, visit rezdowntown.org/marriageclass. For questions, contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org.
The Power of Gratitude – Return your Commitment Cards This Weekend. Each year we have the opportunity to make a financial commitment to support Resurrection’s vision of changing lives, transforming communities and renewing the church. This annual commitment allows each of us to evaluate our giving, what it means and how much it can be for the coming year. It also helps our church to determine a more accurate budget for Resurrection’s ministries. Giving and commitment information will be mailed this week. Thank you for taking the time to pray about your giving. We invite you to return your commitment card during worship, by mail or online at cor.org/commitment
Coffee Shop Reopening – After a summer/fall break, we will re-open Sun., Nov. 23! Come on upstairs at 1522 McGee and grab a latte, espresso or other hot drink and choose from a selection of baked goods. The Coffee Shop will be open between the Sunday morning services (10-11 am). Cash only, please. For more information, contactJackie.Thomas@rezdowntown.org.
SWAT (Singles with a Twist) is having a Thanksgiving Lunch ’n’ Learn Sunday, Nov. 23, at 12:30 pm in the loft at 1522 McGee. Join other singles (approximately 35 and up) for “Thanksgiving Goodness.” For the potluck sign-up, questions and to RSVP, contact Gina Bowman at ginab@kc.rr.com.
Thursday, Nov. 27 – Share Your Thanksgiving! We will be sharing a meal on Thanksgiving for the Healing House, an addictions recovery home and an important part of our Rez Downtown community. We need people who would be willing to prepare turkeys, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and pies, and drop off these items at the Healing House (4600 St. John Ave., Kansas City, MO) between 9:30 and 11 am on Thursday, Nov. 27. We will also need drinks, green beans, paper plates and cookies which can be dropped off at the church earlier in the week. Volunteers to help serve and organize the meal are needed as well. Additionally, if you do not have a place to go or would like to spend Thanksgiving lunch with our friends at the Healing House, you are invited to come! Contact Pastor Todd attodd.maberry@cor.org or 816- 389-8902 to sign up or for questions.
Resurrection Downtown is Turning Five! We want to challenge you to invite your friends and join us in worship Nov. 29th and 30th, as we kick off the season of Advent and celebrate our five-year anniversary! This weekend is going to be an awesome time to celebrate what God has done through this community and to dream about what God has in store for us and this city well into the future. Pastor Scott will be preaching live, we’ll have treats and everyone in attendance will receive a special gift. Mark your calendars, invite your friends and show up early so that you can join us in celebration!
Advent Series with Pastor Scott – Come and prepare your heart for the holidays with this three-week Advent Series. Starting WednesdayDec. 3, at 7 pm, Pastor Scott will help us understand “The Difference a Child Makes.” Hear and discuss scripture stories leading up to the night Christ was born. No registration is necessary. We will meet at 1508 Grand. For questions, contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org
I am so blessed to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in Kansas City.  I hope you'll invite friends and join us as we continue building Christian community this weekend in worship for the our Thanksgiving Celebration.  Have a great Friday night and I'll look forward to seeing you live and in person this weekend as we offer all that we have and all that we are to God!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
