Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Tuesday, 18 November 2014 "A Hole In The Gospel"

Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Tuesday, 18 November 2014 "A Hole In The Gospel"
Several years ago, when I read the book The Hole in our Gospel, it was kind of the first awakening moment in thinking how can I make a difference in the world.  And the question on the cover says What Does God Expect of Us?  There is a quote in the book I often think about by the founder of World Vision, Bob Pierce “Let my heart be broken by the things that break the heart of God”.   Allowing your heart to break is big stuff.  Most people don’t go around wanting or choosing their heart to break.  We tend to want to avoid heartache and stay in a safe and secure place.  In fact I am pretty content sometimes wearing my rose colored glasses.  But following Jesus is not safe and secure.
So, what breaks my heart? It’s the innocent children around the world (even in the US) who experience a life that they shouldn’t have to experience.  And my dream is that they are all rescued and taken to a safe loving place away from evil, away from poverty.  As much as I am a fixer and a problem solver, I know I can’t solve all of the problems in the world, but I can be ready when God calls me to do my part, because every small act of kindness adds up to great things.  And what comforts me is this verse that I lean on daily with regard to my own children: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.(Jeremiah 29:11).[Kim Lewerenz]
