Trinity United Methodist Church " Tuesday Word" for Tuesday 4 November 2014

Trinity United Methodist Church " Tuesday Word" for Tuesday 4 November 2014
Dear Friends,  I have five things for you:
1.  First, a word from Josh Fuller, our Facility Operations Director, about one of our trees:
"Over the past couple months we have noticed an-out-of-the-ordinary amount of debris falling from the large Laurel Oak in front of the Worship Center. This is NOT the Live Oak known as the "Trinity Tree" whose branches touch the ground, but the one beside it. Concerned about the health of the tree we contracted with an arborist to evaluate the situation. The arborist has indicated that, although the tree appears to be okay, it is, in fact,  in the final stages of life.  Also it poses a threat to the building and pedestrian traffic as well. Not only were falling limbs and a possible fall of the entire tree a concern, but it is over growing the large Live Oak "Trinity Tree" depriving it of light and nutrients.
After receiving the report, the Board of Trustees as well as the Building Committee determined it was best to move forward with the removal for the safety of the campus and health of the Trinity Tree.
We wanted to make you aware of the reasoning as you will see changes in this location as well as other areas around the campus regarding our trees. We will be planting some new Live Oaks in November to replace this one as well as others we lost during the storm earlier this year. If you have any questions please feel free to contact my office."

2.  Hub/Welcome Center update:  We are now at $185,500 toward our goal of $229,000!
3.  Trinity will be joining with the other Gainesville area United Methodist Churches for our annual Charge Conference - on Sunday, November 16 at 6 pm at First UMC, downtown Gainesville.  I hope many of you will plan to attend.
4.  I'm grateful for your support of our Fall Stewardship Campaign:  "Free - To Change the World."  Many of you took one of the car magnets on Sunday; how cool it will be to see those images of the world with the word Change on it.  There are still a few remaining if you would like to get one this Sunday.  Also, we have one other token that you will want to put on your desk - it will be there for you this Sunday.  I'll be preaching from Acts 19: 23 - 27 on the theme:  "God's 'Disturbing' Way."
5.  Our Advent theme this year is "Light" as in "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light"  (Isaiah 9:2).  We will be offering the opportunity for you choose the scripture verse that means the most to you to write your devotional; how has the light of Christ come to you; how do you bring light to others; share your reflections on the One who is the Light of the world. Please look for more information coming soon. Thanks.
Love and prayers, Dan

Missions
This week's Mission Box supports Kids Count of Alachua County, which provides an opportunity for students who need extra support in the community to succeed in school and life.  Kids Count programs support the whole-child and focus on three main areas; academics, social skill development and enrichment.  They currently have two program sites, and each program is led by staff and supported by volunteers. The community Thanksgiving Basket program is approaching quickly.  This will be the 8th year TUMC coordinates the food donations and distribution of 1200 Thanksgiving meals.  We need your help! This community program works when the whole community participates, so grab a flyer Sunday or print one out from the website.  Put up a donation box at work, your community center, with your scouting or Rotary group, everywhere.  Grocery gift cards and cash work great also!

WELL WISHES Stepping Stones Service Project November 3-December 20
In the true spirit of Christmas, we would like to emphasize to the children the importance of giving to those less fortunate. Stepping Stones Preschool will be raising money for Living Water International in hopes of providing clean water to children in El Salvador. Our goal is to earn $5000, (Wowser!) the amount of money needed for one water well. We can do it!  "Come, all who are thirsty, come to the water." (Isaiah 55:1)
Gift Giving Alternative: Perhaps you would like to use this service project as an "alternate gift giving" idea this year for Christmas. We would be happy to send a Christmas card to the recipient acknowledging your tax deductible gift.
Contact Rachel in the Stepping Stones' office at preschool@trinitygnv.org or call 416-3025.  Thank you and God Bless!
