Sunday's Sermon. The Doors Of The Church Are Open" (Mark 1: 32-34) Dr. Cleaver will discuss how people rush to church when the saints of God act like saints and will reveal how believers are charged with bringing people to God/church.

Back to Church.
This year, St. James is participating in the national Back to Church movement by creating an evangelistic event. Members are encouraged to invite others to join us at either the 8 or 11 a.m. worship on Sun., Sept. 20 at the Paseo Campus. Join our social media campaign designed to celebrate Back to Church. If you have not yet "liked" the St. James Facebook page, be sure to do so soon and follow us on Twitter. This will allow you to join in our social media discussion about church.
In addition, Sept. 20 marks the beginning of a three-part sermon series titled "A SundayKind of Love." September 20th- Back to Church Sunday-the beginning of a sermon series A Sunday Kind of love. A Sunday kind of love implies the highest form of loves displayed not just one day a week but every day. "A Sunday Kind of Love" is based on the two commandments Jesus lifted up in Matthew 22: 36-40. This sermon series will explore how we live out that kind of love.
Sept. 20: "Do No Harm" (Romans 13: 8-10)
Sept. 27: "Do All the Good You Can" (Galatians 6: 6-10)
Oct. 4: "Stay In Love With God" (Matthew 26: 25-30)

AUTHENTIC FAITH DEVELOPMENT
New Bible Study. Get ready to learn and grow with a new St. James Bible study. Come seeking and asking as Dr. Cleaver and the St. James ministry team explore the miracles of Jesus and the mysteries of the Bible. Weekly sessions will be at 7 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Sept. 17, here at the Paseo campus.
Community Growth Groups. Ever ponder what it means to be a dependable disciple of Jesus Christ? Allow St. James Societies to propel you from pondering to poignant plan when you join one of several Community Growth Groups. The goal? To help people grow in their faith and love of God and neighbor. Attendees join together with family and friends to form groups. Each week, members will not only talk about discipleship, but do acts of compassion, justice, worship, and devotion. The groups will meet weekly for fellowship, support, and mutual accountability.
Please begin gathering participants for groups, which can number between four and seven, or sign up for a group that's already being formed. Sign-ups will be held this Sun., Aug. 30 through Sat., Sept. 12. Training will be held Saturdays, Sept. 19 and 26, where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about how these groups work. Short-term Study. Reminder: Sign up today for this Old Testament study to be led by Royce Turner. Classes begin at 6:15 p.m. beginning Tues., Sept. 15. The book, which costs about $13, "Invitation to the Old Testament: Participant Book--A Short Term Disciple Study," by Celia Brewer Marshall and James D. Game Outing. The United Methodist Men are sponsoring a Family Night at the K Friday, Sept. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium. United Methodist family and friends are invited to this event, which is being sponsored by the United Methodist Men. Tickets for the game, which is Royals vs. Cleveland Indians, are being sold at a discount rate of $17 (usual price is $21) and includes access to the Royals Hall of Fame, activities in the outfield plaza and seating in a block reserved for this group. Pre-order also includes a special parking pass rate of $10 (as compared with $12 regular price). Tickets must be pre-paid and reserved by Thurs., Sept. 10 and seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. These tickets will not be available at the gate on game day. Teachers' Institute. Sunday school will host this training from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sat., Oct. 3in the Ministry Mall.
Men's Weekend. "Men at Work" is this year's theme. Activities span Friday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 18 and include the following:
Friday "100 Men" Fellowship Dinner with Pastor Cleaver from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Peach Tree Buffet. Tickets are $15 and now available before or after worship at the Welcome Center. Don't wait until October; give your annual Men's Day offering of $40 when you purchase your ticket to the fellowship dinner.

De-Feet Hunger Join St. James in our quest to help feed those in need by participating in the annual De-Feet Hunger event. Needed: runners, walkers, food packers and prayer warriors. The 5K run/walk begins at 8 a.m. Sat., Sept. 12 at St. James Paseo campus. Volunteers are needed to pack lunches for Harvester's and area high school students. Food will be packed immediately following the race and children ages 10 and older are eligible to help. In fact, De-Feet Hunger is intended to be an event for the entire family. United Methodist Women. Join the Heartland District UMW for annual "Chat and Chew" book review from either 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 17. The book is "Simply Salsa: Dancing at God's Fiesta," by Bolivian immigrant Janet Perez Eckles, who, through God's grace, learned to dance despite devastating losses, including that of her eyesight, finances, murder of her son and acquittal of his accused killer. Attendees are not required to have the book. Refreshments will be served.
GriefShare. "Surviving the Holidays," a special group designed to provide coping strategies, especially for those facing the first holiday without a loved one, will be heldThurs., Nov. 19. Watch for more information in future communications.
Nursery Volunteers. We are hosting a drive for volunteers to serve in the church nursery for the 8 and 11 a.m. Sunday worships. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Pastor Andre' Fulton at afulton@stjamesumc.com or by calling the church office, 816-444-5588.
Girl Scouts. Troop 3335 will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the following Saturdays during 2015 in the Great Hall, Paseo Campus: Sept. 12 & 26; Oct. 10 & 24; Nov. 14 & Dec. 12; 2016: Jan. 9 & 23; Feb. 13 & 27; Mar. 12 & 26; Apr. 9 & 23; and May 14. Additional dates will be added throughout the year. Goals of the group include fellowship, community service, personal engagement, increased confidence and self esteem, exposure to new experiences, forming healthy relationships and personal engagement. Meetings will focus on age-appropriate journeys and a snack/meal will be provided at each meeting. An annual $15 membership fee will be charged to both girls and adults. Additional costs will be added throughout the year to cover costs of some activities. Registration for both girls and adult leaders is opened throughout the year, but official registration is required prior to attending meeting. Mustard Seeds Choir. Rehearsals recently resumed for this group, which is opened to children ages five to 11 and are held at 10 a.m. Saturdays in the Vaughn Chapel. The following are scheduled rehearsals this fall: Sept. 12 & 26; Oct. 3, 10, 24 & 31; Nov. 7, 14 & 28. for children ages 5-11 are encouraged to participate. Youth Confirmation. The 2016 Confirmation Class begins with an orientation at 9:45 a.m.Sun., Sept. 13 in the Great Hall Conference Room (sanctuary lower level) across from the downstairs Youth Room. Confirmation refers to the decision a young person makes to respond to God with an intentional commitment, publicly affirming or reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation. Most confirmands are youth between the ages of eleven and fourteen, who have been nurtured in the church since their baptism as an infant or young child. Most churches offer a deliberate time of preparation before this service. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings and The United Methodist Church; and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing.
Pancake Breakfast. Our Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sun., Sept. 13, to which all are invited. Tickets will be available at the Welcome Center following 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship leading up to the event. Tickets are $5 for children through age 11 and $7 for those 12 and older. Town Hall Meeting. Plan now to attend the next Town Hall Sun., Sept. 27 during Hebrews to which all parents, children and youth are asked to attend. There will be information regarding the year of activities and other opportunities available to children within Next Generation Ministries.
