The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Show Your Faith" Bible Reading: James 2:14-19 for Sunday, 29 January 2017
James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith but has no actions to prove it? Is such “faith” able to save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food, 16 and someone says to him, “Shalom! Keep warm and eat hearty!” without giving him what he needs, what good does it do? 17 Thus, faith by itself, unaccompanied by actions, is dead.
18 But someone will say that you have faith and I have actions. Show me this faith of yours without the actions, and I will show you my faith by my actions! 19 You believe that “God is one”?[James 2:19 Deuteronomy 6:4] Good for you! The demons believe it too — the thought makes them shudder with fear!

It is easy to say, "I am a Christian." But it isn't always easy to live every day for God. We need to say that we believe in God, but He also expects us to do things that show our faith in Him.
Verse 14 of our Bible Reading tells us, "My brothers and sisters, if a person claims to have faith but does nothing, that faith is worth nothing. Faith like that cannot save anyone." This means that our actions should show other people that we are Christians.
This is important for two reasons. First, when we live for Jesus, we honor Him and prove that we love Him. Second, the people we meet every day are watching us. Our actions need to show them that we have a relationship with Jesus.
What will you do today? Will your actions lead someone to follow Jesus? Will the things you do show other people that you love Jesus?[Gayle Thorn]
"So you see that people are made right with God by what they do. They cannot be made right by faith alone. A person's body that does not have a spirit is dead. It is the same with faith - faith that does nothing is dead!"[James 2:24, 26]
PRAYER: Dear God, I want to do things today that will show how much I love You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
