Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, March 18, 2016 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Greetings RezDowntowners,
We are drawing nearer to Easter with each day! I cannot believe it is almost here. This weekend is going to be a huge weekend of anticipation over all that is to come. Starting this Saturday at 9am for Faithwork Saturday! We’ll plan to meet together at the church by 9am to then head out into the community to serve all throughout the city in celebratory fashion by hosting Easter parties at a lot of our partners in KC! Come on out, invite friends and share in a great morning of service.
Then on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00pm, we’ll be out at Liberty Memorial hosting our City-wide Easter Egg Hunt! This is going to be a ton of fun this year, as we’ll have baskets, petting zoo animals, cookie decorating, bounce houses, crafts and a whole bunch of other surprises! Again, invite friends and come out and join us at one of the city’s greatest treasures as we enjoy a great day in the city!
Finally, we’ll also be worshiping this weekend as we celebrate Palm Sunday. This weekend marks the beginning of Jesus’ triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem, where he’d spend his final week teaching and preaching before offering himself up for us. It is an important weekend in the life of our church as we sing together our Hosanna’s in the highest! I can’t wait to get back downtown this weekend as there is so much in store and I’m especially excited to experience my first ever Easter Egg Hunt with Freddy! Hope to see you soon and have a great Friday!
In the meantime, here are several ways to get plugged into the life of the church:
Join us in Transforming the Heart of the city by turning in your Commitment Card. t’s not too late to be a part of our next steps in the life of our church and city. If you haven't had a chance to return your Commitment Card, we invite you to please prayerfully consider doing so this weekend, as together we seek to build together our new church building in the heart of this city (the first of it's kind in over 80 years)! You may turn your commitment cards in this weekend in worship or you may also complete a commitment card online at or cor.org/downtown/commitment or at build.cor.org/downtown. Grand Vision will require a Grand Sacrifice so we invite you to please prayerfully consider your financial commitment to this endeavor and get ready to join us as we celebrate God’s grace by making our commitments to God.
March FaithWork – Think Easter! Join us this Saturday, March 19, 9 am – Noon at 1522 McGee. Just show up at the church at 1522 McGee at 9 am, and we will send you out to serve in the community until lunch time. Greetings RezDowntowners,
I hope this message finds you doing well this beautiful Friday morning! This is always one of my favorite weeks in the life of the city with the Big 12 Tournament festivities happening all around! However, this week has been especially amazing as all week long I have been riding high while remembering and reflecting over last weekend's Commitment Services. It was inspiring and humbling to watch so many people come forward to offer their sacrificial commitments in response to God's call to transform the heart of the city as we seek to build the first new church building in downtown Kansas City for quite some time. It is really exciting! To make things even more exciting, after a great turnout last weekend, cards have continued to come in all week long. If you weren't able to be with us in worship this past weekend, and if you haven't already put your card in the mail, there is still time to join us by completing and returning your commitment cards this weekend in worship. I believe that God is calling our church to some pretty big things ahead and I want to be sure that everyone has an opportunity to be a part of this bold and historic project before we announce our totals. If you want to fill out an online commitment you can click here: cor.org/downtown/commitment or to learn more about our new building project you can visit our website at build.cor.org/downtown. I hope to see you in worship this weekend and I'll be praying for you as you discern how God is calling you to join us in this effort!
This weekend in worship we'll be turning our attention to the Gospel of John as together we take a look at Jesus' final discourse, found in chapters 15-17. We'll be talking about Jesus' new commandment to love one another, but also the promise of the Holy Spirit as our comforter, counselor and strength! It should be a great weekend in worship as we draw ever so close to the end of Lent with only Palm Sunday to go before we arrive at Easter in the Kauffman! I'm looking forward to seeing you in worship!
Reminder: Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday at 2 am. Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.
In the meantime, here are a bunch of ways to get connected to the life of our church:Women’s Breakfast Series – Join us Saturday, March 12, as Jeanne Johnson talks about “Faith, Farm & Food.” The Johnson Farms Plants & Pumpkins is a two-generation farm located on 140 acres close to Belton. Jeanne has a story to tell about her faith, the family farm and a future filled with food for everyone! We will meet from 9-10:30 am at 1522 McGee. Please bring friends and a breakfast item to share. If you don’t have time to grab an item to share, come anyway, as we always have plenty. For more information, contact Michele Janson, mjanson@everestkc.net.
Join us in Transforming the Heart of the City! It’s not too late to be a part of our next steps in the life of our church and city. Grand Vision requires a Grand Sacrifice.
