Peace and Good in Christ!
Christ is Risen! He is risen, indeed!
We live in a time when the culture of the west is deeply troubled. We are facing violence, polarization, anger and hatred between the various sectors of our society. While there are external means that can minimize at least some of this, the real healing happens in the human heart. That healing happens most fully through Jesus.
During Lent, Holy Week, and the Triduum, we have taken a journey with Christ through triumph, tragedy, and resurrection. We have shed tears of deep compunction for our sin, and the sin of the world. And we have laughed in the Spirit with Easter joy!
This is the journey of any human life. We all face triumph and tragedy, joy and sorrow, success and failure. No human life is exempt from it. Some of it seems suffocating and endless. Christians aren’t exempt from tragedy. It’s how we face those tragedies that makes all the difference.
Easter gives us the assurance of victory. It is a victory of light over darkness, life over death, joy over sadness, and triumph over tragedy. But, it’s not always an external victory. Often, it’s a triumph of the heart and soul. It’s a hidden triumph that makes life’s tragedies not only bearable, but a source of new grace that liberates us from the ups and downs of earthly life.
We still weep with Jesus during his betrayal and crucifixion on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. But, it is the joy of Easter that underlies any of our sorrow on the face of this earth.
I pray that you have a blessed Easter this year. I pray that through your crosses and crucifixions that you hang on to the resurrection of Jesus Christ as your strength. He is the way, truth, and life. When we find his gift in our life, then we have life abundantly regardless of the scarcity of joy we might find in the flesh on the face of this earth.
Happy Easter!
In Jesus,
