Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Monday, 28 July 2014 "Hosea"

Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Monday, 28 July 2014 "Hosea"
The word of The Lord that came to Hosea son of Beeri during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah...(Hosea 1:1)
This week we meet the great prophet, Hosea, who is called by God to marry a prostitute, so that his life can parallel God's relationship with adulterous Israel.  The unfaithfulness of Hosea's wife, Gomer, parallels and highlights the unfaithfulness of God's bride, Israel.  It's a sad but graphic tale.
But Hosea's story is also one of his and God's steadfast love - the wonderful Hebrew word "Hesed," which means covenant love, everlasting, unending love, and as such reveals the greater truth that God's love for us remains a hesed kind of love, a steadfast, covenant love that will not let us go.
So, does our unfaithfulness to God matter.  Oh my, yes!  Gomer becomes a lifeless wraith before she returns home to her husband, and every act of unfaithfulness on our part takes its terrible toll on us.  But the good news is still good news:  God's welcoming arms are wide open to receive us home.  Amen.
Pray about taking Disciple 1, 2, 3, 4 or Christian Believer this Fall. 34 weeks. Excellent. Sign ups late August.
