Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Tuesday, 29 July 2014 "The Prodigal Bride"
The Lord said to me, "Go show your love to your wife again...Love her as The Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods... So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley (Hosea 3: 1, 2).
We all probably know the story of the Prodigal Son, that beloved
parable Jesus tells in Luke 15 in response to the Pharisees'
judgmental questioning about his welcoming sinners. In reality, this story is an 800 year old echoing of the earlier story of Hosea, but also the resounding echo of God's story throughout time of God's love for His unfaithful, wayward people; people like you and me.
Again, please don't downplay the terrible toll one's waywardness takes on a person's life. The evidence is all too stark and painful and real. But the homecoming is always possible, and always more
wonderful than we can imagine.
Pray about taking Disciple 1, 2, 3, 4 or Christian Believer this Fall. 34 weeks. Excellent. Sign ups late August.
