Prayer Tip:
The grandchildren continue to teach me good things, and one of them is how to really pray. Prayer in their lives is just as it should be – a conversation, a relationship with God who is present at all times. One night, when it was his turn to say grace before the meal, Matthew (4), prayed simply, "Thank you Jesus for coming to dinner with us." That was pretty much all that needed to be said, and a good reminder that God was, indeed, present at dinner, and after dinner, and bedtime and beyond.
G.K. Chesterton once wrote, "You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink."
So do you thank Jesus for coming with you to dinner, or to the baseball game, or on a walk, or to a party? How do you acknowledge God's presence in the most common parts of your life? I know a woman who said that the most prayerful activity she knew was folding laundry, because if she was doing that she knew no one would interrupt her prayer time for fear they would be drafted into helping!
This week in the GPS we will read about Jesus coming to supper in a variety of settings – with the disciples, and with a number of sinners just like ourselves. As we read the stories, we will be challenged to put ourselves in that place and that time and look at our responses. Let's also be sure to say grace in all things and thank God for coming with us!(Jennifer Creagar, Prayer Ministry)
