New Report from New Zealand on Economic Impact of Caregiving
Carers New Zealand and the New Zealand Carers Alliance have released a report, prepared by economics agency Infometrics, depicting a demographic snapshot of the average NZ family carer.   The report was developed with funding assistance from Bupa and the IHC Foundation.
672.2 million hours of care are provided in New Zealand annually, meaning the average carer spends 30 hours per week caring - nearly one quarter of their waking time.  The report also finds that women tend to bear most of the caregiving burden.  Women are twice as likely to be a carer, representing 63% of the carer population.
The report sheds important light on the impact of caregiving, especially on women.  For the full report, please click here.  An analysis of the report is also available here.
We're interested in continuing the conversation on caring. If you have something to say about the international issues affecting caregivers, send it to Grace at gracewhiting@caregiving.org to be shared with this listserve.
