25 Oct-2014 Update on Rev. Larry Cornett of our Guam First Church
Elaine (Larry's wife) sent the following: He is able to talk a little better, walk a little better and the swallowing is coming along. Praise God for answered prayer. He says he is going to preach on Sunday. I guess you can't keep a good man down.

NMI Highlights
Are you making missions a priority?
By making mission a priority, a congregation demonstrates God's passion for all people. Churches involved in mission attract people who want to be part of something bigger than themselves.
While there are countless ways to share Christ's message of hope, MPO has goals that help churches accomplish two things:
   1. Increase church members' passion for God's mission.
   2. Assist churches in taking the message of Christ to the world.

Special Prayer Emphasis 10/40 Window
The Church of the Nazarene is at work in 30 of the 65 nations in the 10/40 Window.
  • Nearly 4 billion people live here, including 90 percent of the world's poorest of the poor.
  • It is estimated that 1.6 billion of these people have never had the chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ - not even once!
  • The seat of every major non-Christian religion - Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Animism, Atheism, and Sikhism - is headquartered in the 10/40 Window.
  • In many of the 67 countries represented inthe 10/40 Window, witnessing the Christian Gospel means death.
  • 43 of the 50 worst countries in the world for persecution of Christians are here.
  • Five pennies out of every $100 spent on missions goes to this desperately needy area of the world.
  • Illiteracy is widespread.
  • Terrorist organizations and child prostitution run rampant in many of these nations.
  • Horrific abuse of women and children remains unchecked.

You seldom hear a professional athlete reply to an interviewer's compliment without saying something like "Thanks, but we've got a long way to go."
Author and friend, Dan Reiland, wrote, "A good leader is able to tame his or her ego enough to keep on learning." The dictionary says "improvement" is the "state of being improved; especially: enhanced value or excellence." The opposite of improvement is stagnation or decline, and I don't think you want to go there. So, here's a suggestion list of improvements.
1. Improve your technical skills. Learn to read faster. Upgrade your computer skills before you upgrade your computer. What are the computing shortcuts? Improve your awareness of the Internet as it relates to your profession. What are the time-saving apps? What are the one-stop resource sites?
2. Improve your financial plan. When is the last time you reviewed your estate? Is your will current? What are your short- and long-range financial goals? If you're not sure, it's time for an appointment with a financial planner and a lawyer. Imbalanced personal finances often result in an imbalanced professional life.
3. Improve your health. Do you have a daily exercise regimen? If not, start one. Start slow and build-but start. A half-hour walk or a ten-minute rest each day will do wonders for your mind and body. Learn to eat smarter. Check your portions. Train your sweet tooth to stay in shape for an occasional indulgence, but let it know that some foods are temporarily off limits. Choose some green over gravy or some fruits over frappes.
4. Improve your relationships. You'll get along better with your colleagues AFTER you learn to get along better with your spouse, children, extended family, or friend circle. In fact, why not treat your personal relationships with the same intentional enthusiasm and respect that you treat your professional staff?
5. Improve your networking base. Do you have cobwebs on your contact list? It may be time for a review or an update. Who have you overlooked that needs a new look? Why not set a goal of making at least one new professional contact each month? And don't forget, the care and keeping of your contacts will strengthen your network.
6. Improve your spiritual strength. Have you considered your heart condition? No, I'm not talking about the pump that keeps the blood flowing; I'm talking about the soul that keeps your spirit warmed and alert. Give yourself a daily time out. Pray every day. Read an inspirational book instead of a professional manual. Check and upgrade your value system.
7. Improve your leadership. What are the current leadership trends? Have you updated your leader methods? You can't motivate a 21st century workforce with 20th century methods. Register for a leadership conference. Read leadership books. Your investment in leadership will pay off in a happier "followship."
Somerset Maugham said, "If you refuse to accept anything but the very best, you will very often get it." Do you strive to be a five-star leader?
Achieving it means you've added a star for every improvement.(Stan Toler)

Persecution is something that is known all too well in areas here on the Asia-Pacific Region.   The following urgent prayer request was just received from one of our Field Strategy Coordinators who overseas a restricted access area.
"I need you to stand with us in prayer.  Please pray for 'M.'  He just received Christ as his personal savior last week and in the same week he lead three of his friends to Christ.  Now he is getting threats from some of his friends.  They say that they are looking for him and will kill him when they find him."
We need a concert of global prayer for this new brother in Christ. Please commit to pray and if so lead, fast, on behalf of this brother.

tour KNU's campus.
October 23, 2014, was an exciting day as Nazarenes and non-Nazarenes alike, gathered from literally around the globe to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Korea Nazarene University (KNU).KNU's founder and first president, General Superintendent Emeritus Dr. Donald Owens, had this to say during the celebration:"According to my diary, September 14, 1954, was the first full day of class for the seminal Bible School.  Most of the students were pastors and the focus of the curriculum was on their ordination.  We only had two books available for the students; a Japanese language version of John Wesley's Plain Account of Christian Perfection and a Salvation Army Manual for potential students.
The library was composed of all of my books, written in English.  Mrs. Owens taught Old Testament courses, and I taught New testament, Theology and Manual of the Church of the Nazarene. Unfortunately, all teaching was done via a Korean translator.  It was awkward, but was a beginning.
As I view the magnificent facilities of KNU, and consider the large, well-educated faculty, the number of significant Departments, and the large and beautiful student body, truly, the Lord has done great things among us.  In the beginning, I could not imagine the miracle that is Korea Nazarene University today...this university has become a crown jewel among all of the Nazarene educational institutions."

GS Dr. David Busic brings greetings during the celebration.
KNU, founded as Korea Nazarene Bible College,  has served as a flagship for Nazarene education here on the Asia-Pacific Region.   It hosts 42 majors, a student body of more than 6,000 and is recognized throughout the region as the leader in Human Rehabilitation and Social Welfare,  serving not only to educate leaders in this PhD program, but to educate and empower students with various disabilities.

Some of the current and former missionaries who served at KNU, along with the current president Dr. Shin, Min Gyoo
All five prior presidents of KNU were in attendance for the celebration, as well as many of the missionaries who have served in S. Korea over the past 60 years.  General Superintendent Dr. David and Christi Busic and Global Missions Director Dr. Verne and Natalie Ward were also present. It was definitely a time of homecoming and reunion including several dinners and a concert highlighting the tremendous musical talent of KNU."The global Church of the Nazarene honors Korea Nazarene University for its great past, but depends upon this institution to continue its mission to produce Christian leaders, capable of faithful, dedicated service to this nation and all who occupy this planet, " Dr. Donald Owens.
KNU hosts many international students.  For more information on how you could be part of this great university family follow this link.
