Blue Springs, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 24 October 2014
Take a quick look at our upcoming events/activites below:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
It's was great to be back with you all after our weeks vacation. We enjoyed being visitors a week ago Sunday in San Diego at The Rock, but I'll have to tell you, there's nothing like being with your own community to worship. While they had some amazing stage lighting and tech advances we don't, their hospitality paled in comparison to what I see our team offer on Sunday mornings. It made me grateful for your commitment to our vision to be a church where the non-religious and nominially religious can find a welcome place to learn more about Jesus and his love.
I want to encourage you all to bring your car trunks and come out Sunday afternoon for our Trunk and Treat fest. We're going to line up cars in the north east end of the parking lot so the kids can trick or treat out of them and then we'll move over to the back lawn where we'll have a moon walk, pony rides, games and hot dogs for everyone. The forecast looks beautiful so i hope you'll invite your friends, especially those with children, to come on over for a fun and safe afternoon of Halloween fun. We could use some extra hands to help with games and to bring decorated car trunks for trick or treating. Costumes are welcome!
Don't forget as you're watching the Royals play tonight and tomorrow, to look for Resurrection's commercial during the pre-game show (between 6:30-7:00pm). Our hope is this 30 second spot will reach out to people who are seeking a church home or might encourage someone to come check us out on a Sunday. Be sure to tell your friends and use this as an opportunity to invite others to worship at Resurrection! Thanks to everyone who came out Sunday for our photo shot for the spot. Our communications team will be loading it onto our facebook page and when they do, share it on your page!
Make sure to invite your friends and join us in worship this weekend too, as we conclude our sermon series on the Apostle Paul, his call, life and mission. It has been a great series and this weeks conclusion is important as it will point us towards the hope we have, even when facing death!
Finally, if you consider Resurrection Blue Springs to be your church home, I would love for you to consider taking steps toward becoming a member or perhaps even connecting with me for coffee sometime so that I could share more about our vision with you and learn about you. Our next Coffee With the Pastor is Monday, November 3rd at 6:30 pm. To set up a time for coffee please email Heather.Sooley@cor.org or to register for the Coffee with the Pastor click here.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up:
Share the Warmth by donating clean, gently used winter items for individuals and families in need in Kansas City. See the list of what is needed and learn more at cor.org/collections. Bring donations by Oct. 26, to the barrel by kid’s check-in desk.
Trunk or Treat! We are hosting a free Halloween event at the church for our community on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 4 pm. We will hand out candy to the children from decorated car trunks, and on the back lawn we’ll have an inflatable, pony rides, crafts, games and hot dogs. We need your help with the games and activities, donating candy and providing decorated trunks for the event. We’ll give prizes for the best decorated trunk! Candy donations can be left at Guest Services. All are welcome to come enjoy the fun with our Rez Blue Springs families and neighbors. Kids (and adults) are encouraged to wear costumes. Please pass the word about this event. For more information, contact Diane Enlow.
Single Adult Bible Study Join our Adult Singles Bible Study on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Regardless of how long you’ve been single or how you came to be single, this group will help you understand how God can work in your life now. Note: Single Adults did not meet 10/22, they will meet instead on 10/29 at 6:30 pm.
Guest Services needs ushers, greeters and other hospitality volunteers to serve once a month to help our guests and congregation feel welcome and prepared for worship. Contact Stephanie Weigel or call 816-389-8900.
Coffee With The Pastor Are you considering joining Resurrection? Then come to our next “Coffee with the Pastor.” You’ll learn more about the church, get to know our pastor and review membership expectations. Join us Monday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 pm. Register online here.
Campus Advisory Team. We are seeking persons to serve a three-year term on our Resurrection Blue Springs Campus Advisory Team (CAT). The CAT helps develop the long-range vision of the Resurrection Blue Springs campus. In addition to strategic thinking and planning, members must be willing to raise and take on the questions and concerns for God’s work in our particular community, and be a conduit for communicating the vision and concerns within our community. If you have questions or recommendations, please contact Pastor Penny. For more information or to access an interest form, click here.
rezlife’s METAMORPHOSIS Fall Retreat Metamorphosis is a weekend spiritual retreat for students in 6th-12th grades. Come for worship, hayride, Night Strike, games, Snack Shack and cabin time with friends! Don’t miss out on an amazing time to connect and grow in your faith! Registration required at cor.org/students. Retreat is at Youthfront Camp: 6th-8th grades – Nov. 7-9; 9th-12th grades – Nov. 14-16.
Bonfire and Hayride Join us Nov. 9 at 4 pm at the Wolverton’s Farm for some great family fun at our annual Bonfire and Hayride. Wolvertons live about 15 minutes from the church towards Buckner, MO (map). We’ll gather behind their home on a beautiful bluff that provides a wonderful place to build a bonfire and take in the changing leaves of fall below and to watch the sun set. Randy will have his tractor and trailor ready with hay bales for a ride through the grove around their property. There will be hot dogs, smores, and hot apple cider. Come out to experience this family-friendly evening and build community with others from Rez Blue Springs. Bring a lawn chair and if you’d like to help contribute bring a side dish to share. Feel free to invite your friends to join us too.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend. Go ROYALS!!
Abundant Blessings,
Penny
