I'll be your Server Tonight

I dreamed I was a waitress in a roadhouse cafe
Where the lonely and the lost stopped in to eat.
Broken hearted, cast down, lonely, hungry, and poor
I would serve ev'ry stranger I'd meet.
Compassion was the special, and care, the; "soup du jour;"
Ears to listen were set at each place;
And when I took the order, it was always the same:
A plate of mercy, and a small side of grace.
I'd scribble down the order, and say; "I'll be quick;"
Clip the check to that rotating tree;
"And back at the grill, “Master Chef;" works His best
in the kitchen, where they can't see.
(Bridge )Who knows how they ever wound up in this place!
They'd ask "How'd I land here at all?.......
If on the just and the unjust the rain is sure to fall;
"With all of this rain;"..If I were a tree." I would be thirty feet tall!"
"Have patience! "I'd say," order's coming right up
Chef's at work. You just can't see His face"
And just when they can't take the hunger anymore
I bring out mercy, with a small side of grace
I wake up in a cold sweat, it's always the same
There's a feeling morning sun can't take away
How can I help them, and what can I do
just to help me through my dismay?
I ask God to use me as God's hands and as God's feet
With eyes that see each as God's special case.
Let us pray:
Please help me Lord to see the Christ in each face, and I'll bring mercy, with a small side of grace. Amen
