Trinity United Methodist Church "Tuesday Word" for Tuesday, 21 October 2014

Trinity United Methodist Church "Tuesday Word" for Tuesday, 21 October 2014
Dear Friends,  I have three things for you:
Trinity's goal is to help change the world as Jesus would have us change it.  We're doing that locally and globally.
1.  Locally - through Family Promise - to help homeless families get back on their feet.
There is only ONE organization in our town that provides temporary housing for CHILDREN and their families; it's called Family Promise (formerly known as Interfaith Hospitality Network).  While there are certainly other agencies that provide for the homeless, they don't focus on the needs of children.
Trinity has long been a key supporter for IHN/Family Promise, hosting families in our Education Building at least four times a year, providing meals along with emotional and spiritual support.
As often happens in our community, Trinity is once again being asked to take an even greater role in this vitally important organization by providing key Board members, seeking Corporate Sponsors, helping recruit additional host churches, and providing financial support, both from individuals and from our Church's mission budget.
On Sunday, October 26, several of our
Trinity members will be at a table in the back of our church with more information for all who are interested in learning more.  Please prayerfully consider supporting this vital ministry that helps homeless children and their families in a way no one else is doing.
2.  Globally - the Methodist Seminary in Moscow
When you receive this Tuesday Word, I'll be on a plane flying to the annual Board of Trustees meeting for the Methodist Seminary in Moscow, Russia.  I have no illusions of changing Putin's methods or mindset, but I do know there is awesome power in the Gospel, and that the
Wesleyan/Methodist expression of Grace, God's love, women in ministry, democracy in practice, over time, led by the key role the Seminary has, will make a lasting and eternal difference.  I'm so grateful for
your supporting me in this.  I'll be flying with our Florida Bishop, who has just joined the Board.
3.  Church Council -  our nominating committee is inviting you to consider becoming a member of our Church Council; it meets the 4th Monday of each month at
7 pm; childcare is provided.  The new term starts January, 2015.  If you are interested in serving this way, please let Tammy know ASAP.
Thanks and God bless, Dan

A Word from Rev.
