San Diego, California, United States - First United Methodist Church "Heart of Christianity" Sunday School Lesson Discussion Questions for Sunday, 30 November 2014
Hi to All:
Schedule Alert: No class this next Sunday, Nov. 23. Next class is on Sunday, Nov. 30.
We'll discuss (on Sunday, Nov. 30) the Prologue titled "God Made Flesh" (pp. 163-171) and Chap. 13, (pp. 172-182). Here are some issues and questions to ponder for the discussion:
PROLOGUE
1. Who was Stephan? Briefly, based on what event did he get mentioned in the Book of Acts?
2. Why was Stephan stoned to death?
3. How would the Apostle Paul come to be connected with Stephan?
4. P. 170, first short paragraph. In this paragraph, Aslan asks two fundamental questions. Then, Aslan answers his questions in the rest of the prologue. What is the essential answer he gives to those questions?
Chapter 13
5. P. 173, middle of page. There is one sentence, I feel, which sums up the whole meaning of Jesus' sacrifice: "Jesus' sacrifice...removed the barrier between humanity and God." The significance, meaning, and implications of this one sentence are, I think, the cornerstones to one's belief of the virtues and credibility of Christianity. We should discuss the significance, meaning and implications of this one sentence. Come prepared to discuss the importance of this sentence.
6. Pp. 178-179. What does Aslan say about the Diaspora Jews and the Gentiles, as opposed to the Holy Land Jews?
7. Pp. 180-182. According to Aslan, how would language be a tool of separation between the Hellenists and the Hebrews. And, how did the Christian movement come to be more Gentile dominant?
Again, Nota Bene: There will be no class next Sunday, Nov. 23. The next class will be on Nov. 30, when we'll discuss the questions, above. Suggestion: print them out and bring them to class.
Best wishes, Ben
