The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.(John 20:30-31)
The New Testament is the story of God's interaction with his people during and after the time of Christ. It is divided into four sections: The Gospels, History, Letters and Prophecy.
The first four books of the New Testament focus on the life and teachings of Jesus. Matthew, Mark and Luke are similar in content and order. Although told from different perspectives, the stories, teachings of Jesus and chronology are comparable. Because of this agreement, these books are called the "Synoptic Gospels." Synoptic means, "taking the same or common view." John, on the other hand, takes a different approach in describing the life of Christ, choosing instead to tell the story of Jesus through seven carefully chosen incidents. Together, the gospel writers present the main points of Jesus' life, death and resurrection.
