Not long ago, I was visiting with Carol Stephenson and Dolores Tate-Mayeski, wonderful members of our community. We were at Carol's home, and they had invited me to join them as they sang some traditional hymns and read from a book about the history of these songs - the story behind the story of how and why they came to be written.
It's not often that I spend an afternoon quite in that way, and it was so meaningful to be a part of this time. It was a time of prayer and devotion, a time of friendship and gratitude for songs that have touched our hearts and expressed a faith that has inspired generations.
Not long after I received a very gracious gift from these ladies: a mug with some of these song lyrics written on it. Every time I see this mug, I give thanks to God for that time of prayer and community!
This Sunday, we begin a series named for an Irish hymn that you may know, "Be Thou My Vision." The band will lead us in singing it, and we'll reflect together on its story, as well as the story behind the story - one of humility and gratitude. See you Sunday!
