The God Pause Daily Devotion from The alumni of Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States for Tuesday, 20 November 2018 - Psalm 93
Psalm 93:1 Adonai is king, robed in majesty;
Adonai is robed, girded with strength;
The world is well established;
it cannot be moved.
2 Your throne was established long ago;
you have existed forever.
3 Adonai, the deep is raising up,
the deep is raising up its voice,
the deep is raising its crashing waves.
4 More than the sound of rushing waters
or the mighty breakers of the sea,
Adonai on high is mighty.
5 Your instructions are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
Adonai, for all time to come. (Complete Jewish Bible).
POWER--not!
Some scholars think it likely that this psalm was written during Israel's exile. In the face of bondage, Nebuchadnezzar and ziggurats, God's people were invited to sing: "Yahweh is King ... He has established the world."
And yet, tsunamis roar; the waters rise up; our lives are upended. When chaos strikes, when we are enveloped in sea foam and pounded senseless, feelings and logic look to Marduk. But the Spirit speaks to our spirits deep: "Yahweh is King." There is more. Someday even the noise of chaotic waters will be turned to praise. This is Truth.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, save me; be my solid ground; help me become your peace. Amen.

Psalm 93:1 The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength. He has established the world; it shall never be moved;2 your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.
3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.
4 More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters, more majestic than the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the Lord!
5 Your decrees are very sure; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore. (New Revised Standard Version).
