November 2018 Newsletter
Pastor to Pastor
Dr. H.B. London passed away October 16 at his home in Palm Desert, California and was laid to rest on Saturday. A graduate of Pasadena Naz and NTS, he served the church in multiple capacities and recently pastored Friendship Church in Palm Desert. London was founder and director of the Pastor to Pastor ministry. He challenged us to dream the impossible dream -- dream God’s Dream. “A new dream”, H. B. announced, “is the first step to conquering doubt and fear of failure.” It inflames the hope dripping from Christ’s words, “all things are possible with God.” (Mark 10:27). London called us to dream past our pain, past the enemy’s lies, and past the church’s weaknesses. Dreamers find new ways to accomplish ministry. (London, 1994). Be sure to frequently articulate God's dream for you! -- TT.
Completing the Course of Study
Rev. Sergio Hernandez (Apple Valley Hispanic) and Rev. Alex Iniguez (San Jacinto) were recognized October 31, 2018, at Wildomar COTN for completing the 24 COSAC modules through SELA. SELA is accredited through the Hispanic expression of the ATS, and the coursework accepted by PLNU, Fuller, and Azusa towards a BA degree. Congratulations!
Appreciation
We thank Rodney Kilgore for his excellent work as the editor of the SoCal District Newsletter and Webmaster for the SoCal site. Rodney is focusing on a degree that requires several new languages for him.  That time demand has left little margin for his continued responsibilities on the district. We love his wit and spiritual insight as he managed to keep our community informed of events.  May God continues to bless his life.
Congratulations

New Way to Pay Allocations
Use Funding the Mission for All Allocations
The method for conveying your district allocation has changed.  Pastors, please contact your treasurer and instruct them to include the payment of the District Unified Allocation through the same website they use to make the WEF and P&B payments.  No longer send your payment to the district office. Note that the District Unified payment includes the Education budget, Home Missions, District Operations, and Auxiliary budgets.  The percentage is 7.25%. For assistance please contact David Difalco (ddifalco@yvnazarene.org), Shanae Brown (shanae.socalnaz@gmail.com), or the site’s “support” page.
Faith Promise: An Excellent Means For World Evangelism Giving.
I can personally attest to the crucial role Faith Promise played in helping churches I pastored. We practiced first-fruit storehouse stewardship above local church financial obligations. God financially blessed the churches, and all allocations were paid in full annually.  Members and non-members alike testified to amazing stories of God's invention into their lives to meet their faith promise.  It saved us from adopting a survival mode operationally and from considering our connectional responsibility as a church tax.

Typically, the invitation to Faith Promise is given to the church community on Sundays utilizing missionaries on deputation as keynotes. Retired pastors and missionaries, NMI council members, and our NMI President Brenda Ritchie can be called on to share about Faith Promise.  For more information see

Flourishing in Ministry Study
(Pastors should have received this information from Clergy Development). The Flourishing in Ministry Study provides a tremendous opportunity for our pastors to gain insight into ways to assess and improve their well-being as well as to provide information that can inform efforts to prepare and support those called to vocational ministry in the local church. Nazarene clergy across the USA/Canada Region who are assigned as pastors and associate pastors have received details on how they can participate. Although the window for participating in the survey remains open through November 21, 2018, participation this week and next is especially important. A Spanish-language version of the FIM Survey should be available early in the new year, and we will be able to open up the study again to those pastors at that time (their results will be combined with those received this fall). Results will be available at M-19
