SDFUMC – Water’s Edge enews – Friday, 29 November 2013 – Advent with a Twist...

SDFUMC – Water’s Edge enews – Friday, 29 November 2013 –
Advent with a Twist...
At the beginning of the worship this Sunday we will once again be making sandwiches for the Rachel's House. It's also the beginning of the Advent season.
Advent  traditionally is the season of expectation:
Fulfillment of promises and prophecy of birth and new life of hope and love.
One of our regular worshipers at Water's Edge, Rev. Richard Smith will be leading us in an ancient yet unique worship experience.
By looking through the Biblical story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the angel Gabriel, we will encounter a deeper experience of our faith.
Come with open hearts and open minds.
Blessings,
Pastor Elbert and Pastor Richard
Rachel House Sandwich Sunday
Sunday, December 1, right here during our worship!
Water's Edge continues to support the Rachel's House, a shelter for battered women and children. We'll make sandwiches during our Sunday service, worshiping God as we serve our community.
This Sunday we'll be making 100 sandwiches and If you signed up to bring food, we ask that you arrive by 9:15, so we can set the tables before our worship starts.
Sandwich-making for Rachel's House is an ongoing activity at Water's Edge, the first Sunday of every other month.
See you Sunday!

With recent budget cuts of the food stamps program; our food ministry has become an even more important resource for hungry families. One of the goals for the Water's Edge congregation this year is to support our First Church Food Ministry: Loaves and Fishes. Besides canned food items, milk, eggs, and bread are always welcome. You may leave your donations in The Cove, or in Linder Hall.
Updates from the Loaves & Fishes Food Ministry
We want to express the deepest gratitude to our congregation; Sunday School children, and Choir members, for helping us surpass our goal of making 150-plus Thanksgiving baskets. Thanks to your generosity we were able to distribute the fixin's for approximately 445 complete Thanksgiving dinners! The food was distributed at Wesley United Methodist Church onSunday, November 24. There were many happy and grateful faces leaving the area that afternoon. Read article...
