As we wrap up the year, I want to thank each one of you for your support of The Church of the Resurrection. Through your attendance, your service, your financial gifts and your prayers, you are helping fulfill God's mission for our church by building a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. Thank you!

I am especially grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who helped with our Candlelight Christmas Eve services. Each year when I look out upon your faces in the candlelight I am reminded of how you are the light of Christ to our community.

This week LaVon and I have been reviewing our year-end finances and charitable giving and making additional gifts to organizations we support - including one last one to the church for 2013. Remember, all charitable contributions, in order to be tax deductible for this year, must be postmarked no later than December 31. Anything that comes after that, by law, the church has to post as a part of your 2014 giving. This means your contribution must be physically received at Resurrection (offices are open until 5 pm) or postmarked by December 31. You should mail your contributions to The Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, KS 66224, Attn.: Finance Department. At Resurrection you can give online using PayPal or Resurrection Access, but please note that you can only use PayPal for 2013 giving today. If you give through Resurrection Access, it will be credited to your 2014 giving. Here's the link to give online.

I'm excited about the new sermon series we are beginning January 4/5. Popular literature is filled with theories and speculation about Jesus. We're going to consider the claims of the early Christians, listen to the questions raised by earnest skeptics and seek to understand who Jesus really was.
