Nashville, Tennessee, United States - The Upper Room Daily Devotional "Let's Pray Now" for Tuesday, 1 July 2014 - Read Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word[Ephesians 6:17 from Greek rhema, which means spoken word] of God; 18 with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints: 19 on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the Good News, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.(James 5:16 (NRSV))
Our men’s Bible study had just ended, and as I was heading for the door I asked Timothy to pray for a concern I had. I thought he would respond by agreeing to pray as I requested, but at a later time. To my surprise he said, “Let’s pray now.” It’s so easy to say, “I will pray for you” and then go off into our busy day with all of life’s distractions. I know at times I have forgotten or failed to follow through with my promise to pray for another’s concerns. What a privilege it is to be able to pray for others, to call on the power of God to be focused on someone’s need! To go to the Lord on another’s behalf is truly a blessing. I have never forgotten that moment with Timothy. Now, when someone asks me to pray for them, I say, “Let’s pray now.”
