"Under Construction"
This process has been amazing, because the students have had a lot of input on what we were going to do and did most of the work themselves. Many of the students have never painted, used a nail gun, a table saw, or a miter saw, so it was a great opportunity for me to teach them how to do each thing. I learned how to do all this from my father when I was younger. We built so many things things together, everything from a built-in BBQ grill to replacing windows in our whole house. The skills that I learned I will be able to carry with me for the rest of my life but what I cherish the most was the time we spent together doing those things and the conversations we had. I hope one day that I am able to do that with my children, not just to teach them important skills, but to have that quality time together.
The quality time that I had with my dad years ago, I was able to have with the youth last week. I was able to connect with them and talk with them not just about the room but also about life. To me, that was more important than doing the room itself.
So this Sunday if you have time come down to The Cove and check our out high school room, I know the students would appreciate it.
